So, You Want to be an Accountant?
Are you considering a career as an accountant? Accountants communicate financial information about a business to users. To do this they need to analyse what has happened and present it in an appropriate manner.
If you love numbers, problem analysis and solution and you are comfortable around people and around computers, you might consider accounting. Accountants assist firms to manage their finances so that they meet legal requirements and enable good financial planning and management. They must be good communicators with sound judgement and high levels of integrity.
To be considered for more advanced tertiary courses in accounting you must have maths. There are also some options if you have Maths Lit at University of Johannesburg (BCom extended year program) or National Diplomas at TVET Colleges or a University of Technology. You do not need to have studied accounting at high school to study at a tertiary institute however some institutes allow you to use your accounting mark in place of your maths mark which can help if you haven’t done so well in maths.
The highest accounting qualification is Chartered Accounting. A Chartered Accountants undergoes rigorous training and often rises to senior positions in companies however being a CA is not the only accounting option out there. Associate General Accountants and Associate Accounting Technicians also undertake academic plus practical components to their training however it does not take so long and the study is not as demanding.
To be registered with SAICA as a Chartered Accountant you must complete a BCom (Accounts) degree at a registered institute and then pass the board exams and gain practical experience. For a list of registered institutes look here. If you are not able to start a BCom at a registered institute there is still a registration pathway open to you via the National Diploma and BTech, however it will take a little longer. It will help if you do a bridging course at a registered institute after you complete your BTech.

I’d like to join accountant courses
Hi Thabiso, there are lots of options available. Without knowing your matric marks, I can’t make a recommendation. Do you want to send me some more information?
Yes but how
Hello i would like to be advised on which Diploma will take me to a CA(SA) route beween cost and management accounting and internal auditing?
Hi, As far as I understand, you will need a NDip plus BTech Cost and Management Accounting (4 years). You then do a conversion course at a registered university (1 year). You can then start on the CA internships and exams (min 3 years). Fortunately there are a lot of other finance jobs along the way so if you don’t make it through all the board exams you will still have a good job. You can check the route with the accounting association: http://www.saaa.org.za Kath
Hi Kath, currently doing my BTech Cost and Management Accounting at DUT. Which university can I go to apply for a conversion course and what is the qualification title?
Hi, Check the SAICA website for a list of approved institutes: https://www.saica.co.za/Training/BecomingaCA/Universities/tabid/1255/language/en-ZA/Default.aspx You also may want to phone SAICA because I seem to remember there were some changes to this course and I can’t find any universities advertising for it for 2019. All the best, Kath
I completed my N4 – N6 in Financial Management at umfolozi tvet college I obtain distinctions in all of my modules and I bachelors degree In matric, I wants to further my studies in Bcom Accounting
Hi, You can apply for BCom with your NDip. You will need to make sure that they pay attention to your NDip, and not just your matric results. Alternatively you can do a BTech Financial Management. Kath
I want to ask if ever you did N4-N6 in financial management, but you never did your practicals and you want to further you studies at a university in Bcom accounting is it possible
Hi, You can apply for a BCom Accounting using your academic transcript from you diploma. You will need to make sure that the institute is paying attention to your transcript and not just your matric results. This means that you will need to phone them several times to check that your application is being processed correctly. It helps if you apply to an institute that actually offers NDips like UJ or UNISA. All the best, Kath
I would love to be an accounted
Yes I love to be an accountant but money less
i want to be an accountend
Work hard on your maths and learn to spell accountant 🙂
loooooool!
WHY DONT YOU JOIN
Money less but I want to be accountent
Wat d u mean by money less
I’m not sure what you are asking.
I’m on my third year now ???????????????
Hi, Did you post an original comment? I’ve lost your thread….?
Hi my name is Dineo I want to be account but I don’t have maths n accounting, is it possible?
Hi Dineo, Yes there are options they will just take longer. If you have at least a code 5 for English and a code 6 for maths lit and an average of code 5 overall, you can apply to UJ for BCom Accounting (extended year program). Once you have your degree plus honors (which will take 5 years) you can do your board exams and articles. This takes at least 3 years. You can also apply to CPUT or DUT for Higher Certificate Accounting. This leads on to a National Diploma then a BTech. You then need to convert your qualification at a recognized institution and this will take a year. Universities of Technology are not recognized suppliers for the Accounting registration board. After you’ve converted you can go on to your Accounting articles and board exams. This will take you 6 years plus at least 3 years for articles and board exams. The good news is that if you only make it part of the way, there are still plenty of other jobs in finance apart from being an accountant. In reality only a very few people complete all the board exams and fully qualify. Kath
Hey Ntsati can you please send me an email please menzingobese95@gmail.com
Hy am currently studying bcom(accounting) at the university of venda so after completing my degree were can i apply for bridging causes and how do i apply…i want to be a ca
Hi, You will need to apply to a registered institute for a conversion course as Venda is not registered as an accredited degree provider with SAICA. You can see a list of institutes here: https://www.saica.co.za/Portals/0/LearnersStudents/documents/List%20of%20accredited%20programmes.pdf There is more information about how to become a CA on the SAICA website: https://www.saica.co.za/Training/BecomingaCA/tabid/157/language/en-US/Default.aspx You can also ask at your university for guidance. All the best, Kath
I’m interested in studying Accounting, I’ve already completed Business Management N4 at an FET(Northlink) but I’m willing to change to Finance, I really wish to become an Accountant.
Hi Abongile, It is a long hard road to become an accountant with four years at university then three board exams over the next three or more years. You can also consider that there are many other jobs in finance apart from being an accountant. For example, you can study a National Diploma in Accounting at CPUT (N5). You need to have English code 4, maths code 3 or maths lit code 5, accounts code 5. If you don’t have all the right subjects you can write a motivational letter explaining why you want to study this course.
I’m grade 11 learner but i have this disadvantage subject which Maths Litt, but i really wanna be an accountant 🙁
Hi, You might want to look at some other options in business management? At UWC you can do BAdmin or BCOm with Math Lit 60%+. At CPUT you can do accountancy with maths lit 60%+ as long as you also have accounts 60&+. There are also other options at CPUT Business faculty with Maths Lit 50%+ but it is best if you look for yourself and also go to their open day. http://www.cput.ac.za/academic/faculties/business
You can apply at a university of your choice and go for the extended programme with your maths lit which will be a 5yr degree. But your maths lit score needs to be above 70%
Hey, I’m a grade11 learner doing maths literacy with commerce. I am willing to take business course in university, is that possible?
Hi Sikelela, You won’t be able to study Commerce at UCT or Stellenbosch with Maths Lit however you can do a National Diploma at CPUT (or other university of technology or college) and you can do a BCom at UWC with Maths Lit level 5. Kath
Hi,im a gr12 learner who jxt finished g11 and m keen to study accountancy but my only problem is I’ve been moved to do maths lit,I am doing commerce but it doesn’t have accounting in it…will I be able to study accountancy further?
Hi, Unfortunately you can’t study accounts without accounting or Maths. You need at least one of them. You can study a BCom at UWC with maths lit at least code 5 plus you must meet their entry points criteria. Kath
Evening im truly interested in studying bcom accounting but I changed to math lit this year and I obtain a 70% + for maths lit I also do accounting can I study bcom accounting
Hi Anushka, You have a good maths lit mark so it seems like this has been a good move for you. Your options in finance include a National Diploma Financial Accounting (NDip). You can study this at all TVET Colleges, all Universities of Technology and some Universities. If you do well in your NDip and want to study further, you can use it to apply for a BCom. UJ is the only university that offers a BCom (Accounting) with maths lit. Your maths lit must be over 70% and your APS must be at least 28. To work out your APS, add up all your report codes. Life orientation does not count. UJ also offers the NDip so you can apply for both at the same institute then see which one you get an offer on. Please make sure you also apply at a second insitute, just in case you don’t get a place at UJ. All the best, Kath
I have Level 6 in maths 4 in english. I dod not do accounting at High school. Do I qualify for Bcom Accounting (C.A.)???
Yes you can apply for BCom accounts at UWC, the minimum requirement is maths code 4 and english code 3.
I would really love to become a chartered accountanbut I am not sure of the requirements
Be excellent at maths. Be willing to work long hard hours over many, many years. Be good at understanding systems. Love finances. Enjoy solving problems for people. The requirements differ depending on which institute you apply to. To eventually qualify as a CA you will need to study at a university.
So are u able to be an account when u study maths lit, economics, accounting,bt not business n hw much rate must u gt on each subject
You can study BCom Accounting at UJ in the extended year program (it takes an extra year to complete). As far as I’m aware, it is the only place you can do it with maths lit. The entrance marks are in the prospectus: https://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Documents/UJ%20Prospectus2016.pdf Look on page 39. You need maths lit code 6, home language code 4, additional language code 2, life orientation code 3, two other subjects code 4, one other subject code 3.
Hey I’m a grade 12 learner doing accounting economics and business studies with maths lit.is it possible for me to pursue economics or bcom?
Hi, yes some universities will allow you to study BCom with excellent maths literacy marks. Have a look at UJ and UWC. All the best, Kath
hey Kath! please help me, ur input would be valued greatly. i finished matric in 2014 and i want to be a CA but the problem is that i didn’t do accounting in high school (my maths is 71%) and im thinking of doing it at varsity level (university of joburg). which option would u recommend between the following:
BA Accounting science (3 years) (orthodox CA stream)
BCom Accounting degree (3 years) with option to bridge into honours CA stream after completing the 3 yr degree
BCom Accounting degree (4 years) with option to bridge into honours CA stream after completing the 4 yr degree
thanks in advanve kath
Hi, The good news is that you don’t need high school accounting to study accounting at UJ (and many other tertiary institutes are the same). This is because the system they teach you at school is not used in the real world. So you haven’t missed out, you will be fine. If you want to be a CA then my advise is to take the BA Accounting as it is the more direct route and you have the maths marks required. The best plan though is to speak to a Student Advisor at UJ. Usually you don’t choose to register in the extended year (4 year) program. The university places you in it when you apply, or soon after commencing, because they think you’ll need extra support.
Hi there,I matriculated with mathematics and sciences, and I really want to study CA,is it possible to follow that route under the bachelor of accounting science at wits and are they going to do a full introductory in accounting and other commercial subjects as I have no background at them at all?
Yes you can follow that route and no you do not need to have studied accounting at school to study it at tertiary.
Hi everyone I will be doing grade 12 this year but unfortunately I have been moved from the maths class to the maths literacy class. I want to do Chartered Accountant and I get an average mark of about 65%-70% in accountibg. I am for a 75%-90% mark in maths literacy and if I am able to achieve that would I be able to enroll to a university to study to be a chartered accountant? ( I have been doing maths core and I have recently changed now as I am going to grade 12) HELP !!!!
Hi, You are not going to be able to be a chartered account with maths lit however there are other commmerce and accounting options for you. At UWC you can do B COm with Maths Lit level 5. At CPUT you can do a one year National Diploma in Accounting with maths lit level 5 (60%).
Hi I really would love to be a C.A but I am not sure my accounting mark is high enough which is 59percent
Your maths mark is more important than your accounting. Depending on where you apply, you might not even need accounting.
hi, I finished my matric in 2014 .I got 84% in accounting & 36% in mathematics , I want to study accounting courses. which university that will take me if I apply and which course to take
Hi Sbongile, I don’t think you can get into an accounting course with that maths mark. I suggest you rewrite it. There are some good bridging year programs that will help you improve your maths. Please contact Sean Wilson at SAEP 082 8660992
id also suggest that u re-write ur maths
Hey.I passed matric this year.I got level 4 in Maths and 7 in Accounting.my ENG HL is level 6.where can I go and study Chartered Accountancy?
Hi, If you didn’t make any applications then the best place to go will be your local college – Cape College, False Bay College, Northlink. You might still get a place there if you go TODAY. Otherwise, if you are planning to study in 2017 you can make applications to UWC for BCom accounting.
Isin’t there a late application at any university you know of?
Just finished matric, was woundering if i’ll qualify to study NHC Accounting at CPUT as i received a percentage of 47% in maths and 42% in Accounts.
No, you won’t qualify. Consider rewriting those subjects though if that is your passion. Contact Sean Wilson at SAEP Bridging Year Program 0828660992
Hy,m doing my second year in unersity ,my problem is that I wanted to do bcom in accounting,BT because I got 37% in mths,I was accepted in bcom in businesses management degree ,so I don’t knw wat I will do with business management any idea and I dnt luv BMA m just trying to focuse
Hi, You should be able to go to Student Services and see a careers counsellor. They will help guide you with what you can do with your degree.
Hi , I’m grade 11 this year and I’m forced to do maths lit and I’m doing accounting , but I would like to study accounting at uwc so I’m only worry is if I will be able to study accounting at uwc if I do maths lit?
No you won’t be able to do it. You can do a BCom though
hy kath, me again. so iv accepted to study bcom acc (3 yr) at uj ths year but im scared il fail because i didn’t do it at high school. i know u said don’t worry but i can’t help it, what can u suggest that ca help me get through first year at least?

Is the Bcom Accounting Degree at the University Of Limpopo credited at UWC? I’d like to transfer in my 2nd year
Hi. I am a grade 11 Student and really want to study to become an Chartered Accountant. My accounting average is 70-80% and my mathematics are between 50-55% will I be able to study CA with my current mathematics mark at an University?
Hi, Are you in Cape Town? You will be able to study at UWC with maths minimum code 3 and accounting code 4 as long as you meet the other entrance requirements.
Hi, I’m grade 12 this year and I wanna do B.com Accounting next year. Please help about the requirement needed.
Hi, It depends on where you want to study?
I would like to join Chartered accountant
Hi Lwando, You need your matric with a good maths pass. You then study a BCom (CA route) for 4 years. You then write the board exams over the next three years. There are many other good finance jobs apart from CA though. You can also do a NDip (Financial Accounting) and work in the field. All the best, Kath
i would like to do Bcom accounting at UJ or UP…but am doing maths lit ..will i be able to do it?
Hi, It is possible at UJ to do the extended year program if your maths lit is over 70%. Have a look at the prospectus – http://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Documents/UJ%20Prospectus2016.pdf
Hy I am doing my grade 12 I would like to do a Bcom banking but my results are not too bad. I have level 4 in maths and level 5 in accounting will I be accepted at the university? Please help.
Hi Noxolo, it depends on where you want to apply to whether you will have a chance to get in. What are the options near you?
hi i am currently in grade 12 . i am doing the the science stream and for my grade 11 i got level 5 for math and level 5 for english .can i studys bcom accounting and where
I’m not sure where you are but UJ offers BCom Accounting without accounting as a subject and with maths code 5. I don’t think there is anywhere in the Western Cape you can study. You could also try this online tool CourseChooser. It costs R10 but it will tell you all the places you can study accounting with your marks and subjects. http://www.gostudy.net/product/1/course-chooser-vouchers
That good you dont hve to study accounting if u wnt to go to uct
Also you can study accounting at Stellenbosch without having done accounting at school.
Greetings.is the bcom accounting degree at uwc a strict CA stream? It doesn’t specify, although modules look similar
Hey kath…am doing grade12 this year with commerce(accounting and economics)with maths literacy bt not sure what career 2 choose?
Hi, http://www.gostudy.net/questionnaire Great, free, online questionairre to help you pick your career.
im currently studying internal auditing at unisa but i feel like i need to change to accounting not auditing what must i do?
The UNISA FAQs say that you need to apply for admission to a new course even if you are currently registered at UNISA. They may give you credit for some of the subjects passed. http://www.unisa.ac.za/default.asp?Cmd=ViewContent&ContentID=98297
Hi, im in grade 11 and im doing mathematical literacy so im i be apple to studie accounted?
So im i apple to studie for b.com in university of limpopo?
Yes! You can study B.Com at Limpopo with Maths Lit – economics, human resources or business management streams. You also need economics to do the economics stream though. There is more info here: http://www.ul.ac.za/application/downloads/Prospectus%202015%20A3%20flyer.pdf
Ohh how many percentage they need in mathematical literacy?
40-49%
How many percentage they need for mathematical literacy if i need to studie accountant?
Hi kath my name is Fortune i completed matric 2015 n i want dis career dat i’m passionate with ,wich is CA either @UCT ,Wits or UP bt the ting is i’m not sure weather i’ll survive in doze universities coz i dn’t have accounting background i did science at high school n got 73% in maths n 74% in Physical sciences. Any advice pls
I suggest, out of those three, that you apply for UJ as they are used to dealing with learners who might need extra support. At many institutes, you don’t need accounting to study accounting. School accounts is a totally different system so don’t worry too much about that.
Good day Kath
I trust you are well.
I am very keen in CA program,I have moved to South Africa from Dubai and have Masters(MBA) in banking and finance which is equal to SAQA as per South African standards.
I did not study Maths in matric I have 5 odd years of banking experience and currently I am employed one of the top 4 as a business manager.
Kindly advise how can I approach this subject matter.
Hi, You can get recognition for prior learning and also for work experience, particularly as a mature learner. I suggest you contact admissions at the university you are interested in and talk it through with them.
HI,My name is Richard m currently study at unisa enrolling a certificate in accounting science,i just want to ask if i complete my one certificate twill it takes me another three years to complete my degree in accounting science
Yes, that is correct. Your certificate is a N4 qualification. Your Bachelor is N5-7. Kath
Hi,i passed N5 financial management at tvet college,so jst wnt to know if is it possible for me to apply at any varsity to study bcom accounting?
Hi, You can apply with recognition of prior learning. I suggest you contact admissions at the university you are interested in first and talk it through with them. I know in Cape Town that UWC like learners who come from False Bay College but the best will be to check for yourself.
Hi im in matric ..my maths mark is good, but the downer is that i don’t do accounting. Can i still become a CA
Yes, at most universities. The accounting system taught at school is not used at university or anywhere in the real world so universities mostly don’t require it. The best thing is to download the prospectus of the university you want to go to and find out what the requirements are for accounting. Google search your university name and then “2016 Prospectus”. When you have the document, open it, hit “control F” and a find window will open. Enter “accounting” and then go to the part of the document that gives the entry requirements for accounting.
Hi am Zukhanye and am doing grade 12 . I didn’t do well in my grade 11, so I don’t know whether I will be accepted in universities because they also want me to supply my grade 11 end results. I want to do bcom accounting, will they accept me???
They won’t decide whether or not to accept you until after your matric results come out. The Gr 11 report is used when applying and it is a good indication of what you will get for matric but it isn’t the deciding report, your actual matric results are. You should be looking for a second option that is more within your current academic range as well as pushing for the marks you need for BCom.
Hi kath i wana be a CA ,got 70% in maths n i want to do it at stellenbosch bt de ting is i never did accounting at skul ..wat ar ur suggestion.
You don’t need school accounting to do accounting at university, it is a totally different system.
i have btech internal auditing i want to to be charted accountant what should i do in order to achieve my goal
Hi, I am a grade 12 learner who made the mistake of taking mathematical literacy instead of pure math .It’s really difficult applying for accounting course’s with mathematical literacy as most institution require math as a base. I would like to know what are the admissions requirements for extended programs for learners with math lit and accounting who would like to study chartered accounting.
UJ offer a BCom Accounting extended year program if you have 70% for maths and 30 entry points. Google UJ prospectus 2016 and download it. Click control (Ctrl) F and a search box opens. Write “accounting” and click next until you get the page that gives you the entry requirements
I am currently studying Bachelor of Administration, and I would like to persue a career in acounting after this degree. I got 80% for accounting and 82% for maths Lit, so will I have to go to a university of technology for a diploma in accounting, or will I be able to do Bcom Accounting
Hi, I think you can apply to UJ for the extended year program with Maths Lit. Otherwise, you should also look at the University of Technology however this will not lead to a full accounting qualification.
Hey Kath is there a difference between BcomAccounting science and Bcom Accounting ?
And can I become a CA when I only study Bcom Accounting ?
As far as I understand, Accounting Science and Accounting are the same degree type. Once you finish your degree you apply to write the board exams. There are three exams and you must pass all three (over at least three years) to become a fully qualified chartered accountant. If you don’t pass them all though there are plenty of other jobs in finance. Most people work and study for their board exams at the same time.
Hello,
It’s rare to find someone these days who would be willing to dish out these advises at no cost.
You are truly a gem to share this wealth of knowledge.
I am 25 years of age, I have successfully completed an ABET level 4 qualification and I “think” that I qualify for a Matric exemption due ti advanced age (as per Unisa).
I passes Math Lit. between 80-100%. Would I be able to study accounting if I do get this exemtion certificate?
Tnx
Hi, Yes I think you are right about the Matric exemption due to age. You can read more here – http://he-enrol.ac.za/faqs-frequently-asked-questions Your application still needs to be approved by UNISA and they may require you to write their own assessments to check that you are university ready. UNISA do offer Accounting with Maths Lit 80% and Home Language 60% http://www.unisa.ac.za/contents/myChoice/docs/my_Choice_Unisa_2015.pdf See page 28
Hi I’m Linda. I’m doing diploma in accounting extended first year at MUT and like to do Bcom. I obtain 55% in maths lit 59%accounting, can i qualify to do bcom next year
Hi Linda, UJ will admit for a BCom with maths lit but your marks would need to be in the 70s. I can’t see a BCom you can do with maths lit 55. Sorry.
Linda, if you pass this year nicely, then your grades from this year should be considered in your application for a BCom.
Hy my name is adivhaho ipassed matric last year and am currently taking a gap year will i be able to become a charted accountant if i have 47% in maths and 66% in accounting ,my phone number is 0727734942
Hi, You can do BCom at UWC or BCom Accounting – extended year (4 year) program, also at UWC. You should also look at the options at CPUT.
Hi I’m a third year student, doing national diploma in accounting, next year i wanna go to UNISA to do Advance diploma accounting sciences CTA,the problem is that i did maths lit passed with 70-79%…,,are they gonna accept me??
Thank you inadvance
Hi, the good news is that your maths lit is not looked at. They only ask that you have NQF6 National Diploma.
AM currently studying Diploma in Accounting Financial and Computing, is it possible for me to purse a career in Bcom(Accounting)?
It will depend on your matric results. When you have completed your diploma you may speak to admissions at the university you want to go to about how to get this qualification recognised as part of your application.
Greeting at large my name is luvuyo niselo im studying grade 12 . Hi, Here are the links to the prospectus’s for those two universities. You can find the information there. http://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Documents/UJ%20Prospectus2016.pdf
http://www.wits.ac.za/media/wits…/2016%20General%20Prospectus_revised.pdf
You will find that UJ is easier to get into than WITS, in terms of academic requirements.
Hey me again, can i study bcom(financial man) at uj
Hi, I can’t see your original message any more. You can either fill me in again or look up the prospectus yourself: http://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/sec/Documents/Undergraduate%20Prospectus%202017.pdf Download the file. Use “Ctrl F” to open a find box. Type BCom. Go to the section of the prospectus and see if you have the right subjects, marks and APS
hy kath am doing grd 12 this year and I want to be a CA it just that I didn’t do accounting only science n maths and I achieved 71 percent on maths this first term can I do accounting science in UKZN without accounting
Yes. You need maths 5, english 4, LO 4 and an APS of 32-48. The higher in that range your APS is, the more likely you are to be accepted. For more information read the prospectus: http://applications.ukzn.ac.za/Files/UKZN%20Undergrad%202016%20PROSPECTUS.pdf
Yes you can do it. When you get to University they will star by teaching you the basics of accounting then go on
Hi Kath.can i study Bcom Accounting at Uwc or Accountancy at Cput?coz i got 52 accounting,46 English,28 maths.also have a N6 certificate in Financial Management, i got 67 in financial accounting,56 in cost and management accounting,40 computer 40 entrepreneurship an Business management

Hi, based on your matric results, you could not study at UWC or CPUT however as you have an N6 those results should be considered. I suggest you phone CPUT admissions and ask them how this would work: 021 959 6393 / 021 959 6270
hi, im currently busy with my national diploma in financial accounting ,will it be possible for me to become an a fully fledged chartered accountant.
Yes, you can apply for a bachelor from your national diploma.
Hi I am a Certified Accounting Technician which I obtained through ACCA, so I don’t wanna go that route anymore.Do you think that I’d get an admission at wits to do a Bcom accounting degree?
Hi, The best thing to do is contact admissions at Wits and ask them. Technically you are supposed to be recognised for the qualification you have above matric. If you are over 25 this is easy. If you are under 25, ask for help, apply early, make sure you include your qualification and pester to make sure they are considering your qualification. Tel: +27 (0)11 717 1888
Wow,thank you so much.
Hello,I’m a former student at Cput in possession of a NHC:Accountancy I would like to know how the exemption process works if I want to study at Unisa, am I gonna do ALL those modules that I haven’t already studied??
Hi, When you apply to UNISA you also apply for exemption and it is assessed by them. The application form is on this page: http://www.unisa.ac.za/Default.asp?Cmd=ViewContent&ContentID=26726
Hello i need help,I passed my matric with maths lit level 5,accounting level 4,economics level 5,business studies level 4 and english level 5, so i was wondering which course to take regarding accounting at uj or any other institutions.I really love numbers
Thanks in advance
Hi, You can see the UJ prospectus here: http://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Documents/UJ%20Prospectus2016.pdf Economic and Financial Science is on page 37-39. There are two diploma programs you are eligible for: Accountancy and Financial Services Operations.
Hi, my name is Anita I am in grade 9 and I will love to be an accountant and i am doing very good in maths and accounting but the problem is that I don’t know how much is the school fees and my parents they don’t even have enough money to send me to school after my matric
Hi Anita, the good news is that there are many options to support you with the fees when you get there IF you keep your marks up. One schools principal told his students “If you get the marks, the money will come…” I think this is more or less right but I would change it to say “If you get fantastic marks, the money is guaranteed”. The main thing for you in high school is to make sure you keep at your studies and I would suggest you try and push yourself and also do lots of English reading just for fun.
Keep it up,
Sam
Hi I’m doing bcom ACC at university of venda, but my dream is to become CA, so I wanna know if it’s possible, and if so how?
Hi, You need to do your honors (4th year). You then study for an write three board exams. When you have passed all three, you are registered as a CA. More info at http://www.saica.co.za
Hi, If BCom (Accounting) is offered at your institute, you can apply there and you will get credit for your diploma. If you are applying elsewhere make sure you include your most recent diploma results so that they take those into consideration rather than your matric results. Then follow up and keep saying that you are applying with a tertiary qualification otherwise they will go back to your matric certificate.
hi kath
im doing first year bcom acc in uwc, failed financial accounting and have now been transferred to financial accounting 141 which converts my degree to bcomm financial accounting. I dont want this degree and would like advise what should i do. can I continue with bcom financial acc this year and then convert back to bcom acc next year, if not can I apply to other universities for bcom acc first year and not mention I did it in uwc eg unisa, uct or sun
Hi, I am gathering that you mean your BComm Accounting has been transferred to BCom General. I’m also assuming that you’ve spoken to your department about this and already asked about the possibility of not transferring your degree, carrying the fail and re-doing the subject next year. If you have done all this and they are still insisting that you can’t continue then you can apply elsewhere and you don’t have to declare your record at UWC. However, you should also consider that they have a lot of experience with young people and marks and academic potential. May be the advice they are giving you the best chance of getting a tertiary degree in a field you are interested in, although not specifically in the stream you want.
Hi kath,I’m currently doing my first year at UJ ,I’ve enrolled for diploma in accountancy .i would like to know what should I do in Oder to become a charted accountant ?
When you finish your Diploma with good passes you can apply at UJ for a BCom (Accounting). You can also go to your admissions building and talk to them more about this. UJ have course and career advisors available for students.
I am 42 yrs old working for a small business firm as a bookkeeper. I did not pass maths at school. But I am better in maths now than at school. I would like to study towards being an Accountant. Where do I start?
Hi Brian, Because of your age you will have an age exemption when you apply at university. You need to study a BCom (Accounting). If you want to keep working at the same time, I suggest you apply to UNISA as they offer part time options. They may ask you to write a test to show that you are ready for tertiary study. If you don’t pass they will suggest you complete a certificate or diploma course first. Now is a good time to start the process if you want to study next year.
hey guys i am running out of options i’m still undecided to which tertiary will equip me enough to become one of the chartered accountants for the public entities who can bring transparency and accountability .I currently working as intern in Provincial treasury in Western Cape ,and i did complete my National Diploma in Accounting at CPUT ,and still have eager to complete my studies to become a chartered Accountant .Please advice me which institution will be the best for me .I am looking forward from your favourable response .
Hi, You should apply to all your local institutes and make sure you track your application and that they take into account that you already have a NDip.
hei Kath… im currently doing my 1st year at DUT..A nATIONAL Diploma in Acounting,,, i was womdering if it can be possible for me to a Bcom Accounting after my Diploma and how many years will it be? if i have a Diploma already…..
Technically, yes, you can apply for BCom after Diploma. In reality it is hard to get the tertiary institute to recognize your qualification. When you apply, speak to admissions and ask them how to incorporate the record of your diploma and have it considered instead of your matric results. Then follow up your application and make sure they are paying attention to it. You can also apply for advanced standing due to subjects completed. I can’t say what they will give you though.
But how many years will it take me after my Diploma because i would have already have some credits
It is hard to get recognition if you are applying to a different institute. You may get some credits but I wouldn’t expect that your degree will be substantially shorter. You need to phone admissions and ask them.
if u get a statement of credits from ur previous institution..will they cosider it?
Yes. You can apply for advanced standing / recognition of prior learning.
Hi it Nondu ,mathematics 40% -49% accounting 50%-59 English 50%-59% do I qualify for accountant
I don’t think you can study accounting with maths in the 40s. You could study book keeping or financial management at a TVET college.
hellow i’m currently doing my first year in walter Sisulu University doing Information Technology but i don’t like it when i was in high school i wanted to be a C A but i did pass maths well how possible can i do B com in accounting and i passed well accounting in high school.
Sorry i mean Accounting 69% and maths 43%
Hi, You will need to redo maths if you are going to get into BCom Accounting. If you decide to discontinue your current course, make sure you go to admissions and fill in the proper paperwork otherwise you are still counted as registered, still have to pay fees, and will fail when you don’t write. It is hard to get back into an institute after you’ve failed and not paid fees.
Hi Kath.
I’m doing Grade 12 this year.
I have achieved this percentages in the mid year results :
Accounting 80
Business Studies 83
English FAL 64
Economics 71
Math 59
My APS is 491/700.
I wanted to apply for BCom in Accounting (General) at UCT, and their minimum Maths percentage is 60. Should I apply or not? And if I apply, will I be accepted or will I just be wasting my money?
Thanks
Hi, places for BCom Accounting are really competitive at UCT. I would be surprised if you got in even if your matric final maths made it up over 60%. I would go for UWC and if you’re willing to move – UJ is also a good option.
Hi, I have a National Diploma in Accounting from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. I would like to do a Bcom in accounting at UNISA. Does that mean i shud start from 1st year since iv studied at CPUT?
You can apply for credit for the courses you’ve done. I don’t know how much you’ll get though. http://www.unisa.ac.za/Default.asp?Cmd=ViewContent&ContentID=97181
Good day,
I am turning 30 this year, finished my matric in 2004 with endorsement, got Afrikaans HG C and English HG B with Mathematics SG D, is there any way that I can get age exemption for Bcom Accounting?
Yes, you can apply for age exemption. You might be required to write a Maths and English competency test to show that you are able to study at tertiary level.
Hi I am Sizwe in Cape town. I’m in engineering just completed my N4 electrical at a TVET college with 5 subjects all passed with more than 80% each including Maths and Science. Now I want to do a BSC in Computer Science at UCT or UWC, do these two universities recognize the N4 certificate from TVET college or are they going it? I know CPUT accept N4 but they don’t have Comp science. I also have grade 12 with 75% in IsiXhosa (HL) and 55% in English
Hi Sizwe, Yes your NVC is recognized by universities and you can use it to apply. At UCT you also need to write the National Benchmark Tests but you don’t need to have this for UWC. Places at UCT for Computer Science are highly competitive but UWC is easier to access.
Are they going to accept it?
hi im grade 11 learner im doing commercial and maths lit subject will i be able to do management accountant
I’m not sure if you are asking about a BCom (Accounting) which can lead to being a chartered accountant or a NDip (Cost and Management Accounting). For a BCom, the only option in SA is at UJ where you need 70%+ to be eligible for the extended year program. They also offer a National Diploma with maths lit 60%+ and slightly easier on the entrance points. You will be able to find other NDip options with Maths Lit and there are lots of jobs in finance apart from being a chartered accountant.
Hi i have N6 Financial management from college and i want to become a CA and i want to study at UNISA so will they allow me to register for Admission with my NQF 4 – NQF 6 from college? because i have passed my maths literacy with 50%
Hi, They should consider your N6 however they might require you to write a maths exam to check that your maths standard is strong enough for the degree. The best thing is to phone admissions and ask them. Then if they agree that you can apply you should make sure that they have noted your N6 and are not looking at your matric results to determine course entrance.
Hi i have N6 Financial management from college and i want to become a CA and i want to study at UNISA so will they allow me to register for Admission with my NQF 4 – NQF 6 from college?
Yes they should consider your N6 for admission. Just make sure you follow up your application and keep reminding them about your N6 as the systems are really set up for paperwork for matric certificates only so they do make mistakes.
hi kath i got 73% in maths lit and 67% in accounting will i be able to do bcom accounting in uj
Here is the prospectus: https://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Documents/UJ%20Prospectus2016.pdf Accounting is on page 39. You can do the extended degree with maths lit 70%+ as long as you have enough entrance points.
Only for admission…not to credit me
hy..my little sister is in grade 9.want to be CA after finishing school.so she wants to know what subject she have to do at high school next year.please help her
Hi Kart I did not do NCV, I did the Nated course that’s where I got 4 distinctions including Mathematics and Engineering science in electrical engineering N4, does UCT and UWC recognize the nated course combined with the two languages from my matric ? I want to do computer science.
Hi Kart
I’d like to find out whether I am allowed to register for two-year CTA programme or do I need to start afresh and do BCompt, Is there a short way to study towards CA(SA) for a 30 year old guy ?

hi iam currently studying Bcom at damelin so what must i do in order to be charted accounting its a 3 years course.
Hi, If you are doing BCom general it does not lead to the possibility of being an accountant. You need to do BCom Accounting for four years then write the three board exams over at least the next three years. I’m sure you have a careers adviser at your college. Go and ask. 🙂
Hi,I’m currently doing Bcom admin degree at Uwc…wil it be possible change into Bcom accounting degree next year…plz I need ur advice…
Hi Siyabonga, The best place to ask will be at your own university as they have designed the various courses and will see if you will have gaps and advise you how to manage this. Phone them up and ask. There is usually a cut off date for changing courses so do it soon: 021 959 3901
Thanks my dear brother…
Hey…Is it possible for my Currently 22yrz old sister to apply for SciMathUs at Stellenbosh University for 2017…If she matriculated in 2013 and again upgraded her Mathematics marks in 2015…….really need ur answer plz?
Hi, This is SAILI, not Stellenbosch University so the best idea would be to contact the programme directly: 021 808 3483
http://www.sun.ac.za/english/faculty/education/suncep/Pages/University-Preparation-Programmes-(UPP).aspx
However, reading the website it seems to say that if she has matric then she can apply. You don’t need to point out that she upgraded because this will be integrated into her new certificate from the Dept of Education.
Thanks..it really means a lot to hear that my brother….nkosi
Thanks..it really means a lot to hear that my brother….nkosi
What options are there if I have math kite bd want to study charted accounting?
Hi, The only option is at UJ where you can take an extended year program as long as your maths lit score is over 70%. Kath
I mean math lite or core
I chose pure maths, accounting, business and physics will I be able to be a CA and do you really need business in order to do CA
Hi, You only need maths to do BCom (accounting) at main universities. Universities of technology may require additional subjects for their National Diploma.
can you do SAICA Articles while studying higher certificate in accounting sience
Hi, You need to pass your BCom (accounting) first. You should inquire at the institute you hope to study at for the best way to upgrade your matric qualification. Also, you might like to know that UJ will accept for BCom (accounting) with maths lit code 6, into the extended year program.
and I have financial management N6 but I did maths lit thats why I am studying a higher certificate to be able to qualify to do a degree if I am not mistaken
Hi am i was currently upgrading my maths mark this year but i have been accepted to study a national Diploma in accounting. The dream is to be a CA. What are the next steps after doing the diploma in order for me to reach CA
Hi, You will need to apply after your NDip for a BCom (accounting). After you complete this you write 3 board exams over 3 years to qualify as a CA. It is a long hard road but the good news is that their are lots of finance related jobs you can do along the way without being a fully qualified CA. The easiest way into a BCom will be to apply to an institute that offers the NDip as well as the BCom. UJ is a good option. Otherwise you will have to keep checking with admissions that they are looking at your NDip qualification and not your Matric. Not all institutes are well set up for unusual admissions. Well done on your upgrade! Kath
Hi Karth
I would like to know which bridging subjects/courses can I use to be able to study Bcomp. I have done Maths at school but failed it .I have been working in finance field for +/-5 years so I have a little knowledge of some things. Any advice you can give on which courses can I take in order to follow the accountant path?
UNISA offer bridging courses that link to their degrees. Otherwise you will need to redo matric maths. http://www.abet.co.za/adult_matric_study.html
Hi I have just passed my Grade 11 and gonna be doing grade 12 next year 2017 so problem is I would really like to study at wits university and become CA but the problem is that I got 50% for my maths and wondering if there’s a possibility of being accepted like should I just apply at wits and really work hard in grade 12 because I believe that I’m more than capable of getting excellent marks
Hi, You are unlikely to be accepted at WITS with Gr 11 maths at 50%. UJ will be a better option for you. It is slightly easier to get into and also offers an extended year program if your marks indicate that you are not quite ready for the course. You still get the same qualification in the end. They also offer National Diplomas in finance as a second option, if you don’t make it for the Bachelor degree.
hi I’m going to do matric next year but I don’t know which course to do after matric, I’m doing commercial stream with maths lit and in accounting I get lower marks please help.
Hi, Have a look at National Diplomas at your local college or university of technology in business management, office management or financial management.
hey Kath, I have just decided that I want to be an accountant but I’m not sure if I qualify and if I do which University can you recommend for me to apply to, let it be in Gauteng or North West. I got 69% maths lit and 65% English.
Hi, Unfortunately you don’t qualify for accounting. You can try for National Diploma, Business Management or Financial Management at your local college or university of technology. Colleges are still open for applications but university of technology is likely closed for 2017 courses.
I’ve obtained 72% in accounting and 73% in maths lit do I qualify to do Bcom Accounting (CA)
Hi, The only institute that takes maths lit for BCom Accounting is University of Johannesburg. They are open for late applications online today and tomorrow ONLY: https://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/Pages/Late-Enquiries.aspx
Hi
i have Diploma in financial management from the college and Higher certificate in accounting Science from UNISA..so do i qualify to study a 3 year Bcom in accounting science or im gonna start from first year or second year?
Best regards,
Boitumelo Somo
Hi, Each institute has its own (secret) way of working out whether or not you get course credits for previous studies so I can’t answer you. When you apply you also apply for advanced standing or course credit and then if they accept your application they will assess whether you get credits. The easiest application is to the same institute where you got your Diploma because then they are very aware of the course content.
but will i qualify to study 3 year Bcom in accounting science
but will i qualify to study 3 year Bcom in accounting science
Hi Kath,
I am going to be doing my first year in BCom(Accounting) at Wits. Is it possible to change to BCom(Accounting Science) in my 2nd year? How else can I transfer to the CA Stream?
Hi, You will need to ask a course advisor at WITS when you register.
but will i qualify to study 3 year Bcom in accounting science
hi im sinalo im doing bcom management science can i be a CA or change to bcom accounting
You need to change to BCom Accounting. Ask at your institute if this is possible.
Hi Kath, I want to do accounting science at Free state university next year. I got 50% in math and 79% in accounting in grade 11. I hear that accounting science it’s a very difficult course I just want your advice do you think I will be able to cope and pass in record time?
Hi, You need a minimum of 60% to get into UFS for B(Acc). It is possible to improve your maths by 10% if you put in lots of practice this year and ask for help when you need it. You should also apply for something that is EASIER to get into in case you don’t get the maths mark you need. I suggest you also apply to UJ as they have an extended year program for accounting for those who don’t have strong enough maths marks to catch up on their maths skills.
i am going to do bcom management science (EDP), i couldn’t do BAcc because of My Mathematics …so i was wondering if i could change to BAcc and my second year of bcom management science will i be able to do that so i could become CA (SA)
Hello, I want to accounting science at Wits. I got 64% for maths and 77% for accounting. I’m in grade 12 this year but I’m really confused because people are scaring me they say accounting science is too difficult. I want to know if it’s ry that difficult because I want to finish 3 years straight
Hi, You will be more likely to be accepted if you apply for UJ as they have an extended year program if your maths is not strong enough and they also have Diplomas in Financial Management if you don’t make it for a degree at first. You can upgrade from your diploma to a degree later.
Hi Kath Morse
Because i had maths lit on school, I am currently at CPUT going in for my 3rd year in NHC Accountancy but the dream is to become apply at UWC to become a Chartered Accountant. Is there anyway i can make that happen?
Yes you can apply for a degree with a NHC. They should take into account your results. Best thing to do would be to walk over to UWC admissions building and ask to speak to a course advisor.
So i can apply for the course to become a Chartered Accountant? Can i go after my third year or do i need Btech? You wouldn’t mind giving your cell so i could call you? Because my father wouldn’t believe me if i told him myself.
hy my name is ronny lefao , am doing commerce and am well in accounting so which coz will be good for me ?
It depends on your marks in all subjects. If you want to email me your end of Gr 11 report I can advise you best. kathsaili@gmail.com
I am currently doing a second year in Bcom financial accounting at uwc.I want to know if it would be possible to add a year after this degree and get a bcom accounting degree
Ask a course advisor at UWC.
HEY CAN I GET HELP I DONT HAVE MATHS ON MY MATRIC AND I WANT TO BE A CA AND I DONT HAVE MONEY TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR IT WANT CAN I DO TO ACHIEVE IT
What did you get for Maths Lit?
Hi Kath. My son is in grade 11. Was moved to maths lit and obtained 90% for mid term in private school. Now being told to drop accounting although obtained 68%. Is this correct? Are you forced to drop accounting when you have maths lit? I am lost and need advise. Wants to do bridging course and then CA
Hi, There is an option for studying accounting with maths lit at University of Johannesburg. I’m not sure why the school is advising that he drops accounting. Why don’t you go meet with them and hear what they are recommending? https://www.uj.ac.za/studyatUJ/sec/Documents/Undergraduate%20Prospectus%202017.pdf page 20, need maths lit over 70% and an APS of 28 (minimum). It is an extended year program which means your basic three year degree takes four years to complete but you get the same qualification at the end and can go on to honors and your accountancy board exams. A
I have a national diploma in Finance a day accounting. I want to become a CA eventually. what’s the next step?
I made an error in my previous post. The qualification I currently hold is a National Diploma in Finance and Accounting. I want to work my way up to becoming A CA one day. What’s the next step?
Hi, You need to apply for a BCom (Accounting). Make sure you attach your NDip to the application then phone applications after you’ve submitted to make sure that they have noticed you have a NDip. Mostly tertiary application processes are set up for looking at matric results and they tend to overlook higher qualifications. After you are accepted you can apply for RPL – Recognition of Prior Learning. If one of your courses overlaps substantially with one of the BCom courses, you will not have to take that subject. If you don’t get any RPL credits, it will take you 4 years to complete your BCom with honors. You then apply to write the board exams. There are three exams and you can only write one per year. So as you can see, it is a long road to becoming a CA however you will be able to work along the way, earn money and gain experience.
Hey, I’m a grade 12 student who got 58% for pure maths as the final year mark in grade 11, my grade 12 term 1 mark has dropped to 49% …my Accounting mark in grade 11 was 65%, for grade 12 term 1 it has dropped to 59% … my english mark for grade 11 was 77% and for grade 12 term 1 it has dropped down to 71% … Can I still study accounting?
Hi Randy, If you maths stays on 49% you can’t study accounting. However, I wouldn’t panic yet. It is normal for marks to take a dip in term 1 & 2 of Grade 12. By the time you’ve written your mid years and then your mocks you will start to see those marks come back. When it’s time to do applications, I recommend that you apply firstly for the place in the course that you want and then secondly for a National Diploma (Financial Accounting) at a University of Technology. That will give you the best chance of being accepted into something in the financial area.
Hi, I achieved the following in my matric LO 5, ENG FAL 5, MATHS 5, HOME L 6, COM APP TECH 2, GEOG 4 AND L SCNCE 4. I WANT TO STUDY BCOM FIN ACC(EXTENDED) OR BSC MATHS AND STATS(EXTENDED). IS IT WORTH IT? CAN I MAKE IT? MIND YOU I EXCEL IN TRIGONOMETRY, CALCULUS, FIN MATHS, STATISTICS, ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY AND PROBABILITY BUT I EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM WITH LOGARITHM AND A ALGEBRA. I ALSO DONT HAVE ACC AS A MATRIC SUBJECT.
Hi, You don’t need accounting as a matric subject to study accounting at a university. If you apply to somewhere like UJ, UWC or UKZN, I think you can make it. These universities have good support systems to make sure that you succeed. If you start with BCom(Accounts) and find that you can’t manage the maths, you can still complete a BCom degree.
Thanks kath
After studying Bcom Acc,are the students paid when doing practicals for the 3 years?
After BCom honors you get a job and do your articles at the same time. So yes, you are paid. It is hard work to pass all three board exams and many people do not finish. Fortunately there are lots of jobs in finance without making it to CA.
Hi Kath I’m a student at Mangosuthu doing public: finance and Accounting ,problem is that I’m not comfortable bcz I want to be a CA so I don’t knw what can I do when I finished my diploma plz help me
You can apply for BCom (Accounting) when you are done with your diploma. You can use your diploma for the application process. Make sure that the applications office at the institute you apply for notices that you have a diploma. They are mostly only set up to notice your matric certificate. I suggest that you apply to UJ as they have a Diploma themselves and that means they understand the value of the qualification you are getting.
I am doing a learnership this year and i just finished matric last year , So my only problem is that i only managed level 2 for maths and requirements for studying diploma in accounting at UNISA say that i must have at least level 3 in maths ,so how can i meet the requirements with my maths been level 2 ?
Hi, You could rewrite maths this year and try and improve it. Otherwise, You can take the Accounting Certificate at UNISA. There is no maths requirements. Once you pass that you can apply for the diploma at UNISA.
Hi Kath, I have a Btech in Accountancy.I would like to know if you have any advice of the next step I should take as I am torn between becoming and internal auditor or to go the CA route.
Hi Kristen, I can’t really advise you for that. May be someone else on the blog will have some advice?
Hi Kath,I wanna study Bcom Acc in Stellenbosch.I am aware that I need Maths 60% and Accounting 70%.Or 70% in Maths in not doing accounting but I am not sure how they calculate tbe points for IEB.
Kindly assist me in calculating the points in IEB for UCT and Stellenbosch
General information about tertiary application with IEB: http://ieb.co.za/School/FAQs/Universities/Universities%20-%20Do%20IEB%20learners%20get%20special%20consideration.pdf
Stellenbosch: “The process governing selection marks, selection and admission of applicants who have followed an international curriculum (e.g. IEB or Cambridge), is exactly the same as that of National Senior Certificate applicants.” http://www.sun.ac.za/english/maties/Documents/Economic%20and%20Management%20Sciences.pdf
UCT: Nothing specified however the bottom of this webpage says NSC/IEB and seems to rank both equally: http://www.commerce.uct.ac.za/Pages/Admission-Requirements
HI Kath im pursuing diploma in accounting but i have a problem. My problem is that i want become a chartered accountant …what can i do or what should i do?.In the university that im currently in; they dont offer Btech or degree in accounting and it is also not accredited by saica.I really dont know what to do,and i have impressing marks with distictions
Hi, Where are you studying? If you are studying towards a National Diploma, you can do a BTech through UNISA or other UNiverstiy of Technology. If your course isn’t accredited though then you will have to start again.
Good day Kath
I have N6 in Financial Management from college , have 18 months doing practical now I’m in the process of applying for my diploma !
is it posible to study btech for me or do Advanced Diploma at UNISA when i have recieved my Diploma ? because FM N6 is NQF L5 n Diploma is NQF L6
all I want is to be CA(SA)
Yes you can do BTech at your institute or at UNISA and from there you can go on to become a CA. I posted some details about this in another blog comment recently. Have a look. Kath
hi, i’m donald and i want to study bcom in accounting science. i’m currently studying national diploma in accounting at TUT so is it possible to be credited and how long will it take me do complete that degree as i have national diploma in account ?
Hi Donald, I didn’t see that you sent two messages. If you have passed at least one year of your NDip you can use those results to apply to UNISA for a BCom. You may be credited. They will review your courses and their courses and make a decision. You can contact them and ask if you want to know before you apply. Alternatively you can complete your NDip and apply for a BTech. You can still go on to be an accountant with a BTech.
hi, i have level 3 in maths, level 5 in accounting and level 4 in English but my APS is 24 . So can i be admitted at unisa for bcom in accounting science?
Unfortunately not. You need a code 4 for BCom (Accounting) but you can start with a National Diploma and then do a BTech through UNISA. This will enable you to still go on to the board exams for accounting. http://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Apply-for-admission/Undergraduate-qualifications/Qualifications/All-qualifications/Diploma-in-Accounting-Sciences-(98200)
Hi
I’m Lebo. I passes my maths lit with 93%. can I be considered to study to be an accountant?
Hi, yes you have options. You can apply to UJ for BCom(Accounts), extended year program. This gives you an extra year to complete the degree so that you can catch up your maths. Also you can apply for a National Diploma in Financial Accounting at a University of Technology and then a BTech. After that there is a way for you to still register as an accountant. Kath
What is a monthly salary of a chartered accountant
Have a look at http://www.payscale.com/research/ZA/Country=South_Africa/Salary
Hi there, I am a grade 11 learner with maths and accounting marks, so far, of 85% and 79% respectively. I have obtained an 87% aggregate but am unsure as to whether I am cut out to be a CA with my accounting mark of 79%, which is the reason why I am seeking advice. Much appreciated, Adam.
Hi, You can study accounting at university without studying accounting at school. It is a different system. Your maths mark is the important one and it is looking good. If you keep working hard you can also expect your grades to improve. If you haven’t done a work shadow yet, make sure that you do. There are so many options in the world of finance and a work shadow is the best way to start to find your deeper interests. All the best, Kath
Hi there, I’ve completed my National Diploma in Management at CPUT in 2008. I’d like to study to become a CA but not sure how to go about it and will I get credits for the subjects I’ve completed already.
Many thanks
Hi Abby, You can take a BTech in Accounting (not available through CPUT) and then take a bridging year at UCT for accounting. From there you can go on to your board exams. Kath
Hi
I want to become a CA . But i have a degree in Banking already last year i did a bridging Programme in Accountancy at UJ. Im not sure where to start at the moment which universities have part time accounting programmes. And are there places where i can convert my degree from banking to accounting to cut the process short
Regard’s
Hi, My understanding is that if you did the bridging program then you already have the equivalent of an accounting degree and can apply for BCom accounting honors. You will be best to check with SAICA https://www.saica.co.za/ , they can advise you as to how to proceed. UNISA offer part time study for your honors year: http://www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Register-to-study-through-Unisa/Undergraduate-&-honours-qualifications/Find-your-qualification-&-choose-your-modules/All-qualifications/Bachelor-of-Accounting-Sciences-Honours-in-Management-Accounting-(98354) I’m not aware of any other institute that will offer honors part time. Kath
High im vuyile Mdladla and I am a grade 9 student about to choose my subjects for next year im not sure which subjects to pick but accounting is going to be one of them because I excel at EMS I got 100% for term 1 and 92% for term 2 , im interested in becoming a Charted Accountant after school , im currently doing an LO Project and I need to know what subjects and how many points do I need to apply
Hi, Your most important subject is maths. You actually don’t need to take accounting to be able to study accounting at a university. To become an accountant you take a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. This takes 3 years. Then you take an honors year (1 more year). Then you get a job and whilst you are working and learning about accounting you take the board exams. There are 3 board exams and you can write one per year. Lots of people fail the first time they write so it can take much longer to finish qualifying. To find out the entrance requirements for the university near you: search for the name of the university plus “pdf prospectus” eg: “university of johannesburg pdf prospectus” This will take you to a link with a document that has all the entrance requirements. To find accounting hit “ctrl f” This opens a find box. Then type “accounting” and go through the document until the word accounting is showing you the entrance requirements. If you struggle you can email me at kathsaili@gmail.com
Good day, my son is doing his second year in Bcom Accounting (4years) but now he failed his accounting and he so down and discouraged because he wants to be a CA. What can he do.
Failure is part of life. He should do it again. It doesn’t matter if it takes an extra year to finish the degree. Next time around he should work harder and ask for help when he doesn’t understand something.
Hi Guys, I’m Mbulelo,is it possible for me to study CA? I did Accounting at high until Grade 11, then I went to the college to do Office Admin, which has Mathematical Literacy. but my dream still stands, “I want to be a CA”. is that possible?
please advise.
Yes it is still possible. Apply for a National Diploma (Financial Accounting). If you pass that nicely, apply for a BTech. Then do a conversion year at a recognised university. Then you can do your board exams over the next three years. If you don’t make it all the way through, there are lots of finance jobs along the way. You don’t have to be a CA to work with finance and accounting.
I have level 3 for both accounting and mathematics (40%+) in matric
Where do I go an apply for a CA(SA) and is my marks good enough? If not what should or can I do about it?
Hi, Your matric is NQF4. If you are really set on accounting then you will need to start with a Higher Certificate (Finance). This will take you two years to complete and it is NQF5. So it is a higher qualification than your matric. You can then use your Higher Certificate to apply for BCom(Accounting) or NDip(Finance). This is the best path for you, I think. Kath
Hi, I want to be an Accountant but I didn’t do well in Maths at school so what are my options? I have 2 Accounting and 1 Maths and B’s on others
Hi Nontombi, It sounds like you need to consider some alternative careers. Why don’t you do this careers test and see if you can find something else you are interested in? http://www.gostudy.net/questionnaire
Hi.I want to become an accountant but the problem is that I’m doing math lit..but I also have accounting is it possible to become an accountant when doing math lit
Hi, You can study accounting with maths lit at UJ, extended year program, but you must do very well in maths lit to get in. Otherwise you can take a National Diploma in Accounting at a university of technology. If you want to go further you can take a BTech and a conversion course and then you are eligible to write your board exams. Kath
Hey I am Lulama, I am doing National Diploma in Accounting at Mangosuthu University of Technology. I want to become a Charted Accountant someday but I don’t know what to study after complete my BTech, can you please help.
After you BTech you need to do a conversion course at an approved institute then write and pass the three board exams, one per year. Contact the South African Accounting Association for more details – http://www.saaa.org.za/
hi
I studied Entrepreneurship and got BA honours degree in entrepreneurship, I want to be a chartered accountant can I qualify and how long will it cost me to study
You will need to do a conversion course at a registered institute. It will take one year. I don’t know the fees. Then you will be eligible to write your board exams. There are three board exams and you can only write one per year. You will be able to work and study at the same time. Contact the South African Accounting Association for more details – http://www.saaa.org.za/
Hello, I’m currently writing my finals as an undergrad at UJ in BCom Accounting and I need advice on something, may I please have your email address? By the way this is a really great platform, kudos!
kathsaili@gmail.com Thanks for the encouragement 🙂
Hi
I’m doing maths lit presently and accounting in school , is it possin0ble for me to do a B.com and then become a CA
Hi, You can do a BCom at UJ only. You must get over 70% in maths lit and an APS of 28. You can then become an accountant but not a chartered accountant. Kath
hi i am sanele a grade11learner at east rand school of the arts i am doing maths, accounting , music and design but i want to study b.com accounting will i be able to?
Hi Sanele, You can as long as your maths mark is strong enough and also your overall grades. Your subject selection is fine. Kath
Hy
I have completed my matric with Accounting at 78%,maths lit at 82%,English fal 78%,Zul Hl 86%;L.o 93%Economics 88%,BSTD 88%
WHICH COURSE CAN I DO PLEASE HELP ME ??
Hi, In the accounting field you can do a NDip Financial Accounting at a University of Technology or TVET College. You would also be eligible for BCom (Accounting) at UJ. UJ is the only place offering BCom with Maths Lit. If you didn’t apply anywhere and want to study this year then TVET is your only option. Congratulations on your results – they are fantastic! Kath
THANKS KATH
YOU REALLY HELPED ME.
Am Bongekile I want to be an accountant I have N6 for business management
Hi Bongile, You will need to apply for a BCom (Accounting) using your N6 results. Universities are not well set up to consider results higher than matric so you will have to keep reminding admissions that you are applying with your N6 diploma not your N4 matric certificate. I suggest you try for UJ or other university that offers NDip as they will be more likely to recognise your qualifications. Kath
hi, my company want me to further my studies, and am in finance department. I want to do BCOM ACCOUNTING so I’m not sure if my matric result will make me qualify for it. please advise the possibility of this. I’ve done some few course also.
Hello.I’m Benevolence Manganyi from giyani, i am in grade 10 and i am studying accounting, economics, business studies and maths literacy. Isn’t possible that i can studying CA at university or college
Hi, You can not study to be a CA with maths literacy however you can study accounting and many other finance options. The better your marks are, the more options you have. Kath
Hi I’m prince ,i’ve completed matric with code 6 Eng ,code 6 HL ,code 5 Acc & code 1 maths and I’ve passed all the other subjects very well.then I enrolled for Business Administration NQF 4 at I college.I want to do a Bcom degree ,do I have any possibility of admission at a recognised university
Hi, Unfortunately you cannot do a BCom with code 1 maths. It’s possible that if you complete a National Diploma (NQF6) first, that you may be admitted to a BCom based on your NDip results rather than your matric results. Kath
Hey..I’m currently studying a diploma in accountancy at UJ..which steps do I have to take to be a CA?
Hi, You can use your completed diploma to apply for a BCom(Accounting- CA Route) and complete an honors year (4 years). Alternatively you can do a BTech (Accounting) then a conversion course at a registered CA institute. After either the BCom or conversion course you need to pass your board exams over at least three years. There are many other finance related jobs besides CA so if you don’t make it all the way, you can still have a great job. Kath
i’m doing B.com(accounting) 3yrs at UNIZULU and my hope is to be CA not an accounted only…. how should i become an CA?
Hi. I am doing N.D in Accounting. I want to be an Accountant. So I want to know that, if I do a B.Tech in Cost and Management in Accounting, can I still become an Accountant? And what will be my next move after a B.Tech
I mean Chartered accountant
Hi Londiwe, After you BTech you will need a one year conversion course at a recognised university. You then write your board exams, one per year for three years (or longer if you don’t get through in one go – most people don’t). You can contact SAICA for more information. https://www.saica.co.za/Default.aspx They will give you advice over the phone. If you don’t make it all the way for CA there are many other well paid and prestigious finance careers. All the best, Kath
How hard is it for me to do a BAccounting at Stellenbosch university having not done accounting In school? ( I do however get high 80s for maths) and have been accepted to the degree.
Hi Ryan, High school accounting teaches you about one particular accounting system that no one actually uses at university or in the real world. So whilst it is helpful to give you a general intro to the field, it is not specifically helpful in giving you knowledge of the university subject. Which means you will be fine 🙂 As it seems you are taking a gap year, you could register for accounting at a TVET College for semester 2. That will be a good intro for you. All the best, Kath
Good day,
I am currently working in the Finance Department at SAP SA, I completed my Diploma in Financial Accounting in 2012, and woudl like to furhter my Studies, i eventually want to be the FD of our COmpany, but first the FM, what courses can i do to enhance my skills? or what should i go study further?
Any advice would help me
thank you
Hi, Your next step would be a BTech (Financial Accounting) at a University of Technology. All the best, Kath
good day
I am currently in grade 12 and I would really love to become a cjartered accountant and I’m planning on applying with my March results,is it okay?and what are the minimum requirements
Hi, You can apply with your end of Grade 11 results and your March results. The minimum requirements are different at each institute but your maths mark is always important. If you email me with your report I can advise you about where you will have the best chance. kathsaili@gmail.com Kind regards, Kath
Hi, I have National N Diploma in Financial Management 3 years qualification 18 months theoretical and 18 months experiential learning 360 credits. Do I qualify to to study with unisa Bachelor of commerce In Financial Accounting Sciences?
Hi, You can use your NDip when you apply for a BCom. Whether or not you qualify depends on your results. You will need to contact UNISA admissions and ask them as they only list matric entrance requirements on their website. Kath
Please can you assist me. My son wants to do a become a CA. If he applies at CPUT, what diploma does he apply for?
Hi, If his marks are strong enough for a BCom(Accounting ) at UWC then he will be better off as the route to CA is more direct that way. Otherwise, he can do NDip (Financial Accounting) followed by BTech (Financial Accounting) followed by a conversion course at a recognised institute (1 year) then start with his board exams (three exams over at least three years) whilst working. You can find out more by contacting SAICA – https://www.saica.co.za/ The good news is that there are many financial jobs apart from being a CA so if he doesn’t make it all the way (and most people don’t) then he will still have a great job. Kath
Good morning, I am currently studying towards a Diploma in Financial Accounting. What do I need to do after I abtained my Diploma to study to become a CA? Thank you.
After your NDip you do a BTech (financial accounting) then a conversion course at a recognised institute (you can get a list from SAICA https://www.saica.co.za/Default.aspx). Then you continue on with your board exams, one per year for three years. If you phone SAICA they can give you advice. Kath
Greetings. i finished my matric last year in hope of going to study accountancy but i found myself in IT. Nothetheless I’d like to study accountancy or start at the bottom with financial management. I’ve always wanted to study accounting, but i did maths literacy in high school. So where to from here. Do i still apply with my maths literacy ?
Hi, It depends on how well you did in Maths Literacy and also whether or not you did accounting. Best idea is to send me your matric certificate. Then I can advise you – kathsaili@gmail.com
Hi Kath,
My name is Lilian, I am a third year student with ICB doing financial accounting, i still want to continue with my studies after am done with my fourth year next year from here can i qualify to do my degrees or maybe honors.
Hi, Which course are you registered for? If you prefer you can whatsapp me on 061 390 4470. Kath
hi can someone send me an email with all the universities that offer finance or accounting with maths lit asap thank you
Hi, I think the only one is UJ. UJ offer BCom accounting or finance (not CA stream) with Maths Lit. UWC and a few others offer BCom general with Maths Lit. All the best, Kath
Hi my daughter wants to do accounting but she is not sure whether to do pure maths or maths literacy please help what’s required the most??
Hi, There are many jobs in finance, some require maths and some you can take maths lit. If she scores over 60% for maths on her term 2 report then I would recommend that she continues with maths. There are more options for her that way including CA. However, if her maths is under 60% in Grade 9 or if it drops under 50% in Grade 10 or 11 and she can’t recover it, then she should change to maths literacy. This will give her the best chance of getting a good matric pass and being able to study further. All the best, Kath
Hi,I want to be a Chartered Accountant I got 58% in maths and 59% in accounting, will I qualify for bcom Accounting?
Hi, I don’t think you are going to qualify for BCom Accounting however there are many other careers in finance that you could qualify for – BCom Finance or NDip Financial Accounting. All the best, Kath
I’m doing my third year at wsu in internal auditing..but i want to be a CA..what shall i do after my btech maybe next year..please assist
Hi, You will need to do a conversion course at a recognized institute. There is a list and info here: https://www.saica.co.za/Training/BecomingaCA/tabid/157/language/en-US/Default.aspx You can also phone SAICA and ask them to guide you. They are really helpful on the phone. All the best, Kath
Hey! I matriculated in 2017 and I got a 44% in maths. I am not really a maths fan but I am willing to learn its financial aspect for the sake of the extended accounting degree that I have applied to study in 2019. I also applied for logistics, both of these applications are at UJ and I have been accepted for both. My primary concern is if I choose to do the Accounting Extended Degree, will they have the challenging maths such as they did in high school because i hate geometry and functions. What do you guys suggest I do; logistics or accounting????????
Hi, The purpose of the extended degree is to to give you an extra year to build the skills you need to complete the degree. This will include improving your maths. I don’t know enough about accounting options to answer your question. I suggest you contact UJ College of Business and Economics and ask to get the contact details for the course convener for each of your options. Phone the course conveners and ask about the course content : +27 11 559 4555 You can probably also find a list of subjects for your each of your courses, online. All the best, Kath
Studying NHC Accountancy first year now. Just to make sure. Route to C.A I will study further national diploma, where to from there?
Hi, National Diploma, BTech (financial accounting), one year conversion course at recognized institute, board exams and registration. There are more details on the SAICA website. https://www.saica.co.za/Training/BecomingaCA/tabid/157/language/en-US/Default.aspx They are also very friendly on the phone and you can talk to them about your study pathways. All the best, Kath
helpful post.
hi
my name is luvo, i passed my matric(2017) with four distinctions in Accounting(92%), Maths Lit(85%), economics(85%),business studies(84%) and with code 5 in life orientation(65%) and english(67%).
i am currently registered at cput for nhc accountancy, and id like to be a Chartered Accountant.
can i be credited with my academic record for my first year at the university of cape town for bachelor of accounting or at any other institution?
secondly which bursary can accept my application for bcom accounting with maths lit?
Hi Luvo, You can include your NDip results in an application to university however I don’t think UCT will accept you with Maths Lit. I suggest you phone their admissions department and ask them. You can apply to UJ though for BCom (Financial Accounting). They will take you with Maths Lit however I don’t think it is the CA stream. You can also stay with your NDip, do a BTech then a conversion course at a recognized institute (like UCT). If you look on the SAICA website or phone them they can advise you as to pathway options. https://www.saica.co.za/ All the best, Kath
Hi Kath, what is the possible route or option that I can take?
I am a 52 year old lady as an educator with Bcom Acc graduated in 2000 and a full Saipa member and I am very much passionate about accounting career.
Hi, Did you do your honors year? If not, you should apply for that. Then you can start with your board exams. There is more information on the SAICA website and they are very helpful on the phone also. https://www.saica.co.za/Training/BecomingaCA/tabid/157/language/en-US/Default.aspx All the best, Kath
Hi Kath, I am a student at the Durban University of technology in KZN. I am currently studying Cost and Management accounting and plan on doing my Btech as well. can I be an accountant
Hi, One of your languages is missing. The biggest problem here is your maths. You really have to push to get it over 50% otherwise you are going to have trouble getting into any tertiary course. Selection for accounting is based on your overall marks but particularly your maths mark. You could apply for a National Diploma (Financial Accounting) and have a good chance of getting in, particularly if you improve your maths mark. You would need at least 70% to have a chance at a BCom (Accounting). Fortunately there are lots of options in finance and you can continue to develop your qualifications over a number of years. All the best, Kath
can I be an accountant if I have
eng
afr
geo
comp
math
bus
Hi, It mostly depends on your grades. Maths is the most important. If your maths is good enough to get into BCom (Accounting) then you don’t actually need accounting. If it is not strong enough then you will be applying for NDip (Accounting) at a University of technology. In that case you may need accounting as a subject. All the best, Kath
Hi, My name is Boitshwarelo Selebogo. I am very passionate about accounting. I got 73% in accounting and unfortunately failed math by 24%. I then furthered my studies at Central Johannesburg TVET college,I did financial management I obtained an N6 certificate. Currently I am searching for internships to complete my coarse so I get my diploma. My question is can I get my degree with n N6 certificate only and how do i go about that ?? and what career path can I take with that kind of degree??
Hi, Once you have completed your N6 you can apply for a BTech(Financial Management) through TUT. https://www.tut.ac.za/faculties/economics/departments/man-accounting-fin/about You will be able to go from this into a job however if you want to study further you can do a conversion course at UP or WITS (one year) and then do your articles over at least three years. The great thing about finance is that you can get jobs at so many different levels. All the best, Kath
Hi, I’m going to do NHC accountancy at CPUT next year
How can I become a CA?
Hi, After your certificate, you do a National Diploma, then a BTech then a conversion course at UCT or UWC or Stellies, then you do your articles and write the three board exams. It’s a long road but the good news it that there are many jobs in finance so even if you don’t go all the way to the board exams, you will still get a good job. All the best, Kath
hi i do i qualify to study CA my matric resulls are as follow

hi. i obtained my bcom accounting degree at a non-saica credited institution and i would love to be a CA. i have been told that i should do bridging programme so i can do my bcta and then cta, but i can not find an institution that offers such a programme. please help
Hi, There is a list of accredited institutes on the SAICA website: https://www.saica.co.za You can also phone them, they’re super helpful. Remember that the course is post-graduate so if you are searching for it at a university, you need to look in the post-grad course prospectus/ handbook. All the best, Kath
Hi am doing diploma in finance at mut but i want to do bachelor of finance at uj and am a first yr students can i use my institution result to apply because my matric result is not good
Hi, You can use your diploma results to apply to UJ for the bachelor however they will probably still want to see your matric results. You can also complete your diploma and then a BTech which is equal to the Bachelor degree. If you have NSFAS funding please be aware that you can only get funded for one diploma or degree. You cannot get funding again if you change your course, even if you don’t finish the first course. All the best, Kath
Hi,I do my 1st year at MUT,how are the chances of getting job after the finishing my Corse?
Hi, Generally, studying further increases your chances of employment. The longer you study the more likely you are to be employed and also the more money you are likely to earn. However, it can take some time to get that first job. Some things you can do that will help are: get a job now in anything, this will teach you how to behave in a workplace and will look good on your CV. Volunteer – for the same reasons as getting a job. Look for internship opportunities: many companies offer university students the chance to do holiday work (it may or may not be paid). When you finish university don’t be picky about the salary or status of your first job. First jobs are for showing that you can work in the real world. After that you can start to set your standard higher. All the best, Kath
I am currently studying Financial Information Systems at CUT. I want to study further and become a CA one day but what i would like to know is that will i be credited for my Diploma or will i have to start the Bacc course from first year?
Hi, It depends on where you study. Each institute has it’s own internal evaluation of your work. You won’t really know until you apply although you can try speaking to admissions beforehand and seeing how your NDip will be viewed. I suggest UJ as they have the NDip there. All the best, Kath
Hey, my name is Thulasizwe Luthuli and would like to study accounting. I got 66% for Maths, 69%in Physics, 72% English and my APS score is 29 without LO. Which university will take me for a BCom in accounting or for Accounting science?
Hi, You are not able to get into Chartered Accountant stream however you may be able to get into Financial manager, Accountant, Internal Auditor or Tax Consultant. UJ offer an extended degree program for people with lower APS (like yours), as long as you have over 50% for English? The extended program gives you an extra year to complete the degree and they give you more assistance to make sure you pass. You could also get into a National Diploma in Financial Accounting and take a BTech (4th year) which is then equivalent of the Bachelor degree. Once again, it does not lead to chartered accountant however it can lead to all the other options I mentioned above. You might also check UWC. They have an odd way of calculating APS so I can’t say if you will be eligible or not without seeing all your marks. If your English is under 50% though you are not going to be eligible anywhere without a rewrite. All the best, Kath
Hey, Name is Siya, currently doing Bcom general. I would like to
major in accounting next year. I will do the following modules::
Financial accounting
Management accounting
Taxation
Company law
Financial management
Is it possible to become management accountant or maybe tax
accountant or financial accountant? What body will I belong in?
I am currently at uwc. Please I need your response.
Hi, Please contact the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) – https://www.saica.co.za/ They are great on the phone and will be able to answer your query. All the best, Kath
Hi.i’m Charity. I dont have good matric results but i’my now doing ICB financial Accounting, and Iwant to continue to a degree. Which institution can accept my application and what course should I register for.
Hi, I don’t know what ICB is. Are you doing a National Diploma? If so, you can continue to a BTech which is equivalent to a Bachelor degree and offered at a University of Technology. Otherwise you can apply with your NDip to a University and they should consider your qualifications as part of your application. You will likely have most success at a university that also offers the NDip. UJ offers both. All the best, Kath
is it difficult
Hi
My name is Nompilo, I recently finished my BCom Honours in a college. I write to seek direction as to what is the next step going forward, as I want to be a CA before I turn 40. I know I have to do articles but I am not sure on how to get my self into the accounting firm, do I approach the firms or I just have to wait for them to advertise for 2020?
Thanking you in advance
Hi, Please check the SAICA website for information on registration pathways. https://www.saica.co.za/ All the best, Kath
Hi Kath
My name is Frank and I am currently in my third year of Bachelor in Accounting at Stellenbosch University. I am planning on doing honors in accounting next year but unfortunately my mark for Financial Accounting is 52% and doesn’t meet the Stellenbosch requirement of 55%.
Do you think it is worth redoing Financial Accounting next year to increase my mark to above 55% or rather doing honors next year through UNISA?
Thank you in advance!
Hi Frank, The best thing to is to contact the institute you want to study at an talk though the course options. If you are staying at Stellies, they have a great careers guidance service and also have course advisors. All the best, Kath
Hi I want to become a charted accountant but I’m doing maths literacy is it possible to become a CA with maths lit . I also read that if you do maths lit and want to become an accountant you must do an extended CA class in order to become one is this true?
Hi, It is not possible to become a CA with maths literacy but there are other courses in finance and accounting available to you and you can still register. All the best, Kath
hi, my name is Tsheamo and l am studying diploma in cost and management accounting at Mangosuthu University of Technology, l am a first year and l wanted to know what will it take for me to become a Chartered Accountant? Do l have to change my course or l can continue with it?
Hi, The only way to become a CA is via a BCom(Accounting or Accounting Science) at a registered institute. However there are many other jobs in finance. The more years you study for the more likely you are to be employed in a well paying job. All the best, Kath
Hi,I’m a grade12 learner,I’m stressing out because I want to pursue CA course but I am lacking on my Accounting, but good in Mathematics
Hi Zweli, You don’t need accounting to get into accounting at university. You do need a good overall average – probably at least 75% plus an excellent maths mark. There are many other jobs in finance though so if you don’t get into a CA stream there will be finance options for you. All the best, Kath
Hey, how many years approximately can it take me to move from a national diploma in Accounting(dut) to a bcom Accounting(uj)?
Will it affect me immensely since dut is not accredited?
Hi, You can apply to UJ with a NDIP. It takes 3 years to complete a national diploma. UJ also have an NDip (Accounting). Please note, if you are going to be NSFAS funded, they will only fund your first course, not the second one. You would have to secure a bursary for the BCom. All the best, Kath
