SAILI brief
SAILI gives high school scholarships to financially disadvantaged but academically talented, positive and motivated students so they can attend good-quality, low-cost state schools. This solid education lets them reach their full potential, particularly in the fields of Maths and Science. Our scholarships are high impact, low cost, so that donors can be assured of best value for money in the high school scholarship sector.
Funder Relationship
The Coronation -SAILI partnership has lead SAILI to targeted geographical scouting and improved means testing.
New area: During 2011 & 2012 we scouted in Bishop Lavis, Elsies River and Belhar for the first time and have continued to build relationship with these schools. We have recently included two new Northern Suburbs schools – The Settlers and Bellville High. During 2013 we scouted in Mitchells Plain for the first time and were able to build a partnership with Mondale High School to place our students in this area.
Improved Means Testing: SAILI has followed the example of the high school fee exemption application in requesting more detailed financial information from families. This ensures that we are reaching the students with greatest financial need. Families are now required to provide proof of income over 3 months and supporting bank statements.
Coronation Impact: Coronation began with a small number of students sponsored from the SAILI pool of candidates. As our relationship has grown so Coronation have had confidence to invest in a more significant number of students. Today Coronation sponsors 15 students and SAILI hand picks students interested in the world of finance to come into the Coronation family. We are looking forward to the mentorship and career support that might arise from this arrangement.
