Apply for high school 2020

Apply to SAILI for High School Scholarship 2020 – NOW CLOSED

SAILI is open for scholarship applications during September 2018 for Grade 8, 2020.  Current grade 6 learners can apply for high school 2020.  SAILI provides maths and science scholarships to talented learners.  SAILI places learners in academically successful schools.

How to Apply

Complete the application form available at this link. You can download the form by clicking on “file” then selecting “download as Microsoft Word”.  Make sure to complete all questions on both pages of the form.  Send the form along with the term 2 report and ID of your child by 28th September.  You can scan your documents and email to applysaili@gmail.com .  Please send scans only, no photos.  You can also fax to 086 219 3951 .

Once we have processed your application you will receive an email or SMS confirming.  Do not panic if you don’t get a receipt right away.  It can take up to two weeks to process your application.  If you have not received confirmation after 2 weeks, please contact us.

Who can Apply?

To be eligible families must have income under R12 000 / month BEFORE deductions.  We do not consider debt or number of dependents in this initial application.  We do not ever take families with income over R12 000.  Proof of income is not required at the initial stage however it is required later.  Income from both biological parents is considered unless a parent is unknown or deceased.  Divorced parents must both provide proof of income.  Any other adults contributing to household expenses must also provide proof of income.

Learners must have a code 6 or 7 for their English (Home Language or First Additional) and Maths.  The Term 2, Grade 6 report and learner’s birth certificate should accompany the Initial Application. Learners who do not have the report codes required but who have come in the top three in their class can apply with a letter from their teacher or principal.  The letter must be on school letter head or stamped with the school stamp.

Families must live in Cape Town and be living within a reasonable distance of our selected schools.  These include: The Settlers, Milnerton, Claremont, Livingstone, South Peninsula, Pinelands, Bergvliet, Rylands, Spine Rd, Bellville,  De Kuilen, Norman Henshilwood and Mondale.  From time to time we adjust the list of our schools.  We are willing to add any school in Cape Town that meets our performance requirements.

SAILI does support refugees, foreign nationals and White South Africans.  However, the majority of our recipients are from South African previously disadvantage backgrounds.

For more information about the scholarship schools, view our website.    Please note that the 2020 scholarship is being offered to 50 learners on a school fees only basis.  Learners will be selected at the end of Grade 9 to go onto our full scholarship.

Hi Gugu, If you would like to email me at kathsaili@gmail.com or whatsapp on 061 390 4470, I can help you find the right scholarship to apply for. Most scholarships are based on merit as well as financial need, so your grades need to be excellent. Kath

My daughter is very much academically inclined and achieved 1st place through out this year and sings in the choir, plays netball, plays the saxophone. I received your application form but do not earn less than R12000 but the high schools she deserves to attend are expensive. What can I do in such a situation Miss?

      Hi,

Some high schools have their own bursary. For example Wynberg Girls and Rustenberg. You can apply for those. There are other scholarships with higher income limits. For example MAD Leadership and Students for a Better Future. You can also apply for a fee exemption at the school you get into, if you can’t afford the fees. For more information read: https://saili.org.za/what-does-the-law-say-about-school-fees/ Kath

Hi, You can still apply for fee exemption now. Go and see the school bursar and explain your situation. I don’t think they will refuse you but if they do you can complain to the Department of Education. It is illegal to refuse you the application forms. Contact details for the department are on this website: https://www.education.gov.za/Informationfor/EducationDistricts.aspx All scholarships for this year are closed already. Sorry. Kath

Hi, Unfortunately you need Grade 12 to join the army. You might be interested to study Safety and Security in Society at a TVET College. It won’t get you into the army but it will help get you a job in your area of interest. It is funded by NSFAS. All the best, Kath
