Apply to the Army, Navy and Air Force in FEBRUARY. You will hear the result by SEPTEMBER. The 2018 application form is available here. If you are currently in Matric, you cannot apply until next year February to start in October. This means you will have a year that you need to fill in with other activities. You can phone an army recruiter, contact details here. Read this website for more information on how to join.
The Police Force advertise their recruitment phases in public listings such as newspapers. More information on their application process is available here.
Army
The SA Army provides combat ready forces. The Military Skills Development System is a two-year voluntary service system. Members undergo basic training and corps training during the first year and deployment during the second year. There are many different corps available, each with focus on a specific service delivery. These include engineering, intelligence, catering and much more. The army prepares you for your career both in service and when you leave.
Your CV is the most important part of your application. The focus is on educational performance, participation in sport and community involvement. Cognitive ability, motivation and determination to join the SA Army are also considered. Applicants with a Matric Bachelor pass, above average grades and leadership potential may be selected to study at the Military Academy. Applicants with a University Bachelor Degree can also apply for various army positions and the age limit is higher for graduates.
There is a really helpful summary of what happens during basic training here. The stipend for basic training is R2000/ month. After that you apply for positions in the army that have their own salaries.

Navy
The SA Navy provides a seaward military service. This is achieved through maritime operations, assistance and support operations and hydrographical services. Like the army, the Navy offers a two year voluntary period of services. They equip recruits with necessary skills for a career with the navy and also for general employment. Training begins with Military training and is followed by Functional Training.
Combat applicants as well as Engineering and Technical applicants must have at least a code 4 for Maths and Physical Science (50-59%). These applicants become Officers who are trained to lead in maritime warfare. Finance Officers also form an important leadership function. Officers can complete an appropriate University Degree during training. You still need to get the required entry marks to be accepted at a university – being in the navy is not a backdoor entry! Having a code 4 for Maths and Physics does not guarantee an offer of a place. Out of 15 000 applications only 500 places are offered. After academic screening, the best candidates complete a psychometric test, interview and medical before final selection.
Non-commissioned officers are responsible for much of the hands-on work and often also hold trade certificates as shipwrights, electronic fitters and mechanical fitters.

Hi, Unfortunately you are too old for the army now. I suggest you go to a TVET college and see what courses they might have for you. You will be able to get funding from NSFAS. The college will help you with the applicaiton. If you go now you should be able to study in second semester. All the best, Kath

You will hear if you are successful by September and you will be offered a 2 year contract. You then do 6 months of basic training. From there you go into a specific unit and serve for another 1,5 years. After that you can apply for further positions in the army or leave and find another job. Kath

It is worthwhile also applying to a TVET college for a trade or getting a job. You need a good CV to be selected for the defence. All the best, Kath
How does one apply to the defence force. I’m trying to get the information however it seams like the is no information relating to any application other than the information in the internet which appears to be out dated or information which lead to a dead end. I think the force must be more transparent to the public
The new forms are available now: http://www.army.mil.za/msds_army_2010/msds_application_2015.pdf
Hey, I also applied for S.A. army in 2015 and they called. I did not know that it was them cause that time they used private. I applied, so all I wanna is that will they call me or….I really wanna join the army, in very passionate in serving at the military. ..answer please. Will they call?
Hi, I don’t work for the army so I really don’t know. I think if you haven’t heard by the end of this month then you haven’t been selected. As you have been to ask before, you obviously know who or where to go. I suggest you go to ask again.

Hi Zethu, I can’t answer for the selection process at SANDF. I’m sorry you have a dream and you are not getting there. The good news is that if you get your degree, you can still apply up to the age of 26. http://www.careers.mil.za/faq/faq.htm
I’m 23 years old having only a matric with 3 distinctions, however having exceeded the age limit, can I still make-it into the SANDF?
Hi, I think you are going to be too old for SANDF however if you are interested in service, you could apply to the police force.
oh dear(extremely disappointed), I’m just not interested in SAPS. at this point I just hate myself for not researching about sandf just as I completed my matric. there goes my dream…
Im in grade 11 this year and i would like to be in the army after my matric next year, when must i register and how many distinctions must i atleast obtain?
Hi Palesa, You register in March, the year after you finish matric. You won’t hear until later in the year so it is a good idea to either get a job or start some study whilst you wait. The army doesn’t require particular subjects or marks but if you want to study when you are in the army you will still need to meet the university or college requirements for the course you want to study. Some corps (areas of the army) do require maths and physics, for example Artillery, and Leadership training requires above average school grades and leadership potential. I have matric and i have completed in 2011 so i want to applay for Army and i want to know is there any possibility that i can get informed if the applecation forms are available.

Hi, Applications will open around March of the year AFTER you do matric. They are available online. You will find out if you are successful by September. You then complete 6 months basic training after which you get to apply for specific “positions” or “training”/ musters. It helps to have maths and physics.
I obtain higher certificate n I was doing commerce subject can I qualify?
Hi, If you have your matric you can apply to the defence. Application for places is competitive and selection is based on academics, CV and physical fitness. Applications are open now. It can also help your application if you learn a trade at TVET College. Kath
hi I’m 17 going to 18 in June got matric can I apply
No, you need to be 18 to apply. However, you can phone recruitment and check: https://www.goarmy.com/talk-with-us/phone.html Kath

Hi Sandile, They will let you know if you are accepted by September. You are welcome to reapply if you don’t get in. You will have the best chance if you go to college and start learning a trade and then apply.

Hi, I can’t say for sure how they recruit and they don’t answer my e-mails about it however, last year, a man I know who used to be in the navy asked someone about it and they said they want maths and physics. Like, I said, I have not been able to confirm this myself.
Is there other chances of getting in SANDF if i fail the test help please

You can apply if you have passed matric. Your application is considered based on your CV. If you have worked, if you have studied, if you have a trade etc – all these things assist.
Hey I want to know that can you go under interview if they didn’t send you an SMS?
Hi, You can’t get an interview without an SMS. Sorry. Kath
Good day Kath
My son is now in grade 12 now. He want to join the Navy or Air force. Can we send in his CV now and next year his application? Can you please tell me what is the % that he must achieve for level3 in mathematics and physical science
Hi, He needs to apply after he completes matric. I can’t answer for how the navy and army select but I do know they literally receive thousands of applications and obviously they chose the best of these, based on the CV and matric results, to take through for further interviews and testing. Code 3 is 40%.
I applied this year on january 2016 so when they will tell me am accepted pls i want 2 knw
You will hear by October 2016 if you are successful. As that is quite some time away, I suggest you get a job whilst you wait.
I’m 19 years old and I’ve already applied at the Sandf Army and Navy.I passed my Metric in 2015 with a Diploma,so how can I know that I’m accepted/selected and when?

What Makes applicants to be not selected even though the application form is completed and u have applied early?
HI, I want to join the sa navy and be a weapon operator not a combat officer , i have life science and math lit but not physical science. Will this be a problem?
Hi, I haven’t been able to work out the complexities of how the navy do selection but an ex-navy guy I know asked someone in recruit and they said they prefer good maths and physics passes. Probably the best plan is to go along to the Navy Weekend at Simonstown and find out for yourself, it is kind of like open day for the Navy! – http://www.navy.mil.za/archive/1511/151126_navyfest2016/article.htm
Guys keep in mind tht u wl b selected and tht whn they talk of the test u wl pass stop thnking of failing the plz thnk of good thngs in ur furture ryt:-/
Guys its nt possible for the army recriuting team 2 call befor october or u wait frm the day of apply until october cn u make it clear for me???
You wait until October.
Can i be recruited if my late parents were serving the SANDF (SAAF)
Hi, I am sure you can be considered. I am not sure that your application will be preferred because of your parent’s service. I suggest you phone up and find out: SA Army: (012) 255-1438/ 1420 SAAF: (012) 312-1261/ 2875/ 2695 SA Navy:(012) 339-4352/ 4004
Hi guys is it possible 2 be considerd if u’ve applied for nursing in the SANDF?
I don’t have grade 12. AND I WANT TO BE A SOILDER.25 years old…. What must do now
I’m afraid you are going to have to rethink this. If you haven’t done any further study then you are not going to be eligible for the army as you are too old now to be recruited unless you have a tertiary qualification.
halo i wanna apply for the national defence force.I study this year at chrysalis academy in cape town-Tokai I dont have matric but i.am currwently busy with my level 4 at abet in worcester level 4 is equal too a matric certificate i just wannna know can i apply with that?
Hi I did not do maths and physical science at school,my subject were maths literary, economic, business studies, geography. Does this decrease my chances of being a SA navy?but now I’m studying safety in society at a college for 3 years.
Hi, I wish I could answer this question but I am struggling to get anyone to clarify how the navy does their recruitment. I have heard that maths and physics is important. I’ve also heard that “Safety and Security” will help you get in. In reality, I don’t know what is true in terms of naval recruitment. If you are in Cape Town I suggest you go along to the Simonstown Naval Festival and ask someone. It is coming up in April – http://www.navy.mil.za/archive/1511/151126_navyfest2016/article.htm
Hi am thabo mohayi am 25 ,i completed my metric so i just want to know if i qualify to serve army, please help!!
Hi, unfortunately you are too old for the army now. If you are interested in a career, I suggest you go to your local college and see what courses they have available. They will do a careers test with you and offer you some advice.
I passed grade 12 n now I’m doing my second year in boiler making at Tvet College and during my application I even attached my metric resultsn ma college result I want to know if I will be called n when?
Hi, As far as I understand, if you are not called by September then you are not accepted. You can always reapply though and applications are open now.
When wii you start natifying applicants that their form are successful
Hi, I am not part of the defence force, this is just a helpful blog which no one pays for. As far as I understand, if you have not heard by September, then you have not been successful.
I want to work for the army of south africa but I don’t have grade 12 I’m working on getting grade 12 please help I want the job. I’m 22 of age I’m female
Hi, You will need matric to apply. But even if you get matric but don’t get into the army, you have a much better chance of job just getting matric. Keep going. You are on a good path.
hi im in mtric now and very interest to be part of sa army
Get the best marks you can for matric. Even though there is no minimum marks required, they do get a lot of applications and obviously take those with the best marks.
hi im Rebaona and im a 19 years old women who completed matric in 2015
, and i have passed my matric with a diploma,my dream is to become a soldier so my problem is that i did economics, business, maths lit subjects so i want to know that i still have chances to work at army plzz help coz i already applied in February.
Hi, There aren’t specific subjects required. If you don’t get an offer you might want to consider “safety and security” at FET college. I have heard that it is a good course to lead into the army.
i have pass my matric last year i have an administration to a diploma i was doing history life science mathes lit agric science l.o and languages but i fail only mathes lit in subject that iwas doing in 2016 and iam 19 yeas old iwant to be a soldier is it possible to be if it is possible how can i apply?
Hi, You should do your diploma first. The army are interested in people with trade certificates.
Hi.I’m nkosikhona gumbi I’m so interested to join army but my fear is that I’m 23 years old,I have matric.so do I still have any chace to get there?
Hi, if you have studied at tertiary you can apply up to age 26 but 23 is too old if you have not studied since matric. Why don’t you go to your local FET college and enrol in something the army might find useful? Business management, engineering or catering are all jobs needed in the army.
Hi I’m Inga Kamzembe a 19 year old girl . Tanks
Hi, I think you might need to modify your plans a little. You can get your matric at a TVET college. You should take the speciality – Safety and Security in Society. This will be specific for your interests. Because of your age though you still might not get into the army when you finish however there will other options open to you that you don’t have now.
I want to knw if there is stil hpe on sadf cz i hve applied nd they said they wil only call by 31 of Oct

Hi, Having a kid does not disqualify you from getting in but I’m not sure about whether you would be able to get family arrangements during basic training. Best would be to contact them and ask: (012) 355-1492/1150

Guys my problem is .this year of 2017 i will be in grade 12 so I just wánted to know is it neccesarly for me to do maths and sciences at school or maybe Accounting, Business ????
Hi, From what I’ve heard, the defence forces preference young people with maths and science in matric or with a post-matric qualification, including trades.
Hi um NKAGI and am passionate in army , but I passed with Higher certificate do I qualify?
Hi, you do meet minimum requirements but it is unlikely you will get in without a further qualification. Go to your nearest TVET College and register for a trade. You can also apply to NSFAS to cover the cost. When you have your trade, apply to the army. You will have a better chance that way.
Good day…my problme is fail my matric only two subjects and my dream was to be a solder so i dnt know i can apply or not because i ws at grade12 bt i didnt make it so what mst i do my honour??????
Hi, You can rewrite your two subjects or you can go to TVET college and register for a NCV (Safety and Security in Society). It will take you 3 years and is a good preparation for the army/ police and other security service careers. Either way, you should act today. Both rewrite and NCV courses will soon be full. If you want to know the nearest rewrite program to you please email me at kathsaili@gmail.com and tell me where you live.

cz I really want to be the part of military
The process is that you first apply to the military. Then if you are accepted you go to basic training. You then apply to serve in a particular corps (service area). Training is offered within that corps as determined by the needs of the army. At the moment the army is most likely to recruit young people with strong maths and physics marks. If you really want to get into the military you will be better off to go to TVET college first and get a trade and then apply. NSFAS funding is available for TVET college courses. Registration for both TVET and NSFAS is open right now.
so what if you are at college doing other course are we allowed to apply am doing end user computing at college so they will take me or I must also go to TVET college to study trade will they take me cause I will 23 next year
Does a higher certificate qualify for SA army ?
Probably not. They are looking for Bachelor Pass with good maths and physics codes.
hi ,, i am 24 this year and i have matric and a 3 years National diploma in Public Management. I have applied to join sandf. Do you think i have chances to be selected for interview?? And when do they normally start calling applicants??
I think you stand a chance. They don’t call until August- September though so you should first get a job and build your CV and experience.
Hi, if may i ask a question do i still have a better chances to join the SANDF coz im 20 years old now i completed matric on 2014 the problem i didn’t passed well
I’ve passed *English with level 2
Home language IsiZulu ……level.5
Life Orientation….level…3
Mathematical literacy…level…2
History……level……3
Agricultural science…..level….2
And i tried to apply last year, they told me im not qualify and its better me to go back to school and upgrade my subject. So this year i decided to go study at college the course of safety and security in Society. Do i still have a better chances to reach my goal?
That is a really good course in the area of your interest and the TVET college instructors say that it DOES help with applications to the army. You can apply with matric only (or matric equivalent) up until the age of 25. So you are still on track. You might also find some other options you like during your course.
So if I am 24years but haven past matrix last grade was 11 that means that I have to go back to school and do my grade 12 only then I can join the army .can we join the army without any matric
You do need matric to join the army and unfortunately you are now also too old. Go to your nearest TVET college and ask them what courses of study they can offer you. They will do a careers assessment with you and help you find a way forward.
Hi i have send my application i have N6 in electrical engineering but without trade test at the moment do i stand a chance in selection
Hi, I think you stand a chance but I don’t work for the army and have never succeeded in getting them to explain their recruitment priorities. If you do your trade test in the next couple of months, add it to your application. Being qualified will help.
During volunteering process, do you offer accomodation, meals, monthly allowance etc…?
Yes the SANDF covers you for accommodation and meals and also provides a monthly stipend.
Hi i’m 21yrs,i compplite Matric on (2015),i like to join SANDF.I did GEOGRAPHY…5 MATHS LT…4 LO…7 ENGLISH HL…4 BUSSINES STUDY..3 TOURISM…5 ZULU FL…5 …which course i may belong 2
Hi, My understanding is that SANDF are only recruiting at matric level if you have good maths and physics marks. Otherwise they recruit if you have a trade and you are under 22 years or other tertiary qualification and under 27 years. Your best plan will be to go to your nearest TVET college and see what they can offer you in terms of a trade. At least you will have a skill that leads to employment then even if you don’t make it for the SANDF
Hi, i posted like 12 forms to Pretoria like the form states, I’ve been posting it since January up until now, i fit all the requirements, i i have matric (diploma pass) i have my license, i am 18y/o ,but my maths are normal ,not excellent, but my matric certificate says diploma pass, I’m very fit & healthy, would any of you know when they wwoul et me know? It doesn’t state pure mathematics & science on the form, only on The air force form, so i didn’t apply for the a/force, but like i said i fit all the requirements, when should i expect a call ?
You can only expect to hear in September if you are successful so it is worthwhile getting a job or furthering your education for the next 6 months.
I Koketso Mashao 18years . I passed my matric with Diploma and now am looking forward to study . I’m interested in this course but I didn’t do Mathematics and Physical Sciences .
Can I also apply for this career?
Yes you can still apply however applications close tomorrow.
But i can be a solder?
SA Army HR told me that people that fit the qualifications etc can be recruited, no pure maths or high match points, it only state that you should “preferably” have a diploma/bachelors pass on your matric certificate and be the appropriate age, i mean, the form & hr wouldn’t lie & say otherwise.
Thanks for that information William. Can you share the contact details of the person you spoke to?
hi kath I’m jack I have 25yrs old. and I’ve always wanted to be in SANDF I did apply while I was doing my matric 2011 but I never got response is the any chance that I could still make it. please help because I love this job to serve and protect my country
Hi, Unfortunately you are too old now for SANDF but you can still further your education at a TVET college. http://www.fetcolleges.co.za/default.aspx
Hi no you should just contact the HR department of Sandf all that people that deals with the intake told me that’s pure maths and science is only necessary for Navy & Airforce
When the selection process calls gonna start for interview (2018)
The selection process is already underway. They will call you by September if you are selected for an interview.
I am Tebogo from musina I like to join am 20 years now and I don’t have matric I am in grade 10 now
Hi, Unfortunately that plan is probably not going to work out for you. You do need matric and you need to have it by the time you are 22 years to apply to the army. Don’t give up on the idea of studying further though. Look for a TVET College that has accommodation. Apply to the college and apply for accommodation and apply for NSFAS funding. The college will help you with all those things. As much as you can, start saving for things that you might need like transport. You can see a list of TVET colleges here: http://www.fetcolleges.co.za/Site_Public_FET.aspx
hi Kath ,I’m turning 21 years on June this year , I’ve applied early on February, i hv passed matric in the year of 2015 with bachelors degree I was doing maths n science ..so my question is’ is there any chance to get into sandf due to my age?
Hi, You are not too old to be accepted this year however if they don’t take you this year, you will be too old next year.
Have the selection process started yet for 2018 intake ?
No. You apply in Jan/Feb of 2018 for intake in Sep/Oct of the same year.
hi Kath I went for the selection processes in Durban last month and I passed all the tests and even did medical test but now what is stressing me is that I don’t know when I they going to call for training… please help me with the details
Hi, If you are successful they will phone and offer a contract of employment in September. Basic training runs from October to December. Kath
halo Kath I wanna apply too the national defence force i dont have matric but i.am currently busy with my level4.A level4 is equal too a matric certificate can i apply with it I have study this year at chrysalis academy in cape town-tokai.So i know the drilling and fitness test i just know the basics of the drilling
Hi Christopher, I just need to check what you are doing. If it is ABET 4, then that is equivalent to Grade 9, N1. You would need to go on and do a National Vocational Certificate in Safety and Security at a TVET College N2,3,4. This is equivalent to matric. If you are already completing the National Vocational Certificate (N4) then you can use it to apply for the army. Kath
Hi,I’am currently studying bachelor of social science at University this is my first year.So can i apply next year on Jan/Feb?or finish my degree first? I’m 20 years old.
Hi, The best is to finish your degree first and then apply. They have a special admissions program for graduates. Kath
Hey there! I’ m currently studying HR at NMU in PE. I would love to join the navy but I’m worried about my lack of Mathematics and Physical Science subjects. I have done some research on my own and found that the Navy doesn’t really rule out people without these two however they always take preferance to them in the recruitment process.
Luckily, I’m still 19 years old and I plan on applying next year.Do I have much of a chance though? I’d like to practise HR at the Navy.
I’ve not had much luck getting anyone in the Navy to explain their recruitment process to me however I have also heard about maths and physics. I think that as you are studying at NMU already that will help your application. You might want to consider applying to the army also?
Hey there, I’m currently studying engineering at the University of Pretoria since 2011 which means which means I’m 25 this year. I have an undying passion for the military but I’m worried that I might be too old to apply. Can I still go for it?
Hi, If you have a degree you can apply up until age 26. Kath
Hi, I am currently in grade 10, 15years old but i was wonderng what can I do in the army without maths and science one day and what do I need
Hi, You can be selected for the army without maths and science. There are many, many army based careers. Look here: http://www.gostudy.mobi/careers/View.aspx?oid=830 Participation in sport, community and work all count towards your selection. You can also consider taking a trade at a TVET college first and then applying to the army afterwards. TVET trades are funded by the government NSFAS. Kath
Morning I’m Bonolo Vivian Boya ,I’m 18,years old I don’t have matrix but iam a students at alpha abet doing my level 4 do I quality to be an army ?
Hi, Well done on continuing your studies. When you have completed ABET4 it is equivalent to Grade 9, NQF1. You need matric to join the army. There are other options for you though. When you pass your ABET, go and visit your nearest TVET college and discuss your options Kath
Good day my name is Madeleine, I would like to enquire regarding the navy. my son is very keen on joining when finished with school he is currently in grade 10. My question is , his subjects are maths, business studies, CAT and accounting. Will this count against him when he does apply in years to come? or do we change subjects. Urgently await your reply. Thank you
Hi Madeleine, I have struggled to get definite advice from the Navy about subject choice however I have heard that they preference maths and physics. You could try calling their recruitment officer directly and asking. You can apply for the navy with matric only or with a tertiary qualification. If he isn’t accepted straight out of school, he should definitely re-apply after he gets a tertiary qualification. In regards to subject change, he can change one of his subjects to physics BUT it would be very difficult to catch up the year’s work. I’m not sure that your school would allow it. If your school does allow and he really wants to do it then the best chance would be to register him with Master Maths/ Science now and start working on the Grade 10 physics curriculum for 4 hours/ week.
Hello, I need urgent advice please. Next year, I’ll have my LLB law degree. I have an excellent matric certificate. I really want to serve our country in the Army, Air Force or Navy.. will there be something that I can do with my law degree in the SANDF?
Have a look at this link, it might be helpful -http://www.dlsdiv.mil.za/aboutus/about_us.htm
Hi i applied this year for army but they still didn’t reply, i have matric certificate but i did history so I’m asking if i can go to college which course must i do in order to be considered in military ???????
Hi, If you didn’t hear from the army by now then you didn’t get in this time. They reply in September to start basic training in October/ November. Doing a trade that is useful to the army can help your application. Anything in mechanics, engineering or building could help. There are no promises though. Whether or not you get in depends on what the army needs and who else has applied that particular year. All the best, Kath
Hey im Zena and i just finished matric at 17 and im keen on joining the SA army but will by height be a problem …im about 5’6
As far as I can see there are no restrictions based on height. You could phone the army recruitment and check if you are worried. http://www.army.mil.za/contactus/contactus.htm
Thanks alot for the help Kath
Hi im Daluxolo, was doing matric this year,i wana know know what are the requirements needed in the Airforce..please help
Hi, Have a look here: http://www.gostudy.mobi/careers/View.aspx?oid=640 Applications open soon and you can find the application form online. If you are successful, you will hear by September. Kath
Do I need matric or will I be able to qualify with a foreign equivalency?
Hi, You can apply with a foreign equivalent. You should get it rated by SAQA. Also you must have SA Citizenship only. Kath
Hi my name is welly I’m 19 years old but I’m turning 20 at August,so im wishing to join SA special force but i have failed my matrix so will i be able to join SA special force please help me i really want to know ?
Hi, You need your matric to apply to the defense force. Sorry. Kath
Kath…….I finished my matrix last year 2017.and am 19yrs old..I passed with Diploma ,and I was doing Maths lit…my question is do I have the possibility to make it to Military force army.???
iyangidla lento ?
Hi, You can apply to the army with any level matric pass. They do get a lot of applications and places are competitive so good grades helps. They consider other things also though like fitness and your work experience. Also if you get a trade, it helps your application. Kath
Hi, so im doing my final year in Bcom economics. I wanna apply for the Navy or Army bt however I also want to continue with my postgraduate studies(in economics)…. So my question is will I be able to study part-time while training.. And also do you know how much stipend trainees get?
Hi, you will apply for the defence this time next year. They will call you up in September for basic training which runs for 6 months. You cannot study during basic training. After that you can apply to study further and the army may support you to study full time, as long as it is in an area that they need graduates in. You can’t be in the defence part time. Kath
Hy l am turning 25 this yr nd i want to join army but i dont have N6 or any degree but i’ve trade tested i have (welding certificate)
Hi Ngeziwe, Unfortunately it is too late for you. However welders are in short supply and there are many jobs out there, so you will get work. All the best, Kath
I have the required things for army and I’d like to join for army this year, can you please explain to me that where can I get the application forms please!
Hi, The application forms are available online. http://www.dod.mil.za/MSDS/APPLICATION%20ARMY.pdf If you have any questions you can phone recruitment: https://www.goarmy.com/talk-with-us/phone.html Kath
Hi, my name is king ,
I have a big Passionate about being a pilot with Military.
I’m currently doing my Gr12 senior certificate this year and I need to know will I be eligible to apply for the opportunities?
Hi, If you have maths and phyisc then you have a chance to study to be a pilot with the airforce. Otherwise, you can apply to the army with a completed matric and a good CV. Your CV should show that you are determined and motivated. Include any volunteering or leadership or extram mural commitments. Kath
Hi I’m Pitso and I have applied at SANDF this year I’m 19 and complete my matric with diploma pass and I failed maths and physics so I wanna know that I would be considered and how they bona gonna notify me a call or SMS?
Hi Pitso, I’m not sure if they call or SMS. You can phone Recruitment and check. You will not hear before September.
Tel : (012) 339 4000
SA Army: (012) 255-1438/ 1420
SAAF: (012) 312-1261/ 2875/ 2695
SA Navy:(012) 339-4352/ 4004
E-mail: navyrecruitment@sanavy.co.zabr
SAMHS:(012) 671-5169
They consider your application based on your CV as well as your matric certificate. I have heard that the navy will not consider you without maths and physics however the army will. You also need to realise that there are many, many applications. They will take the best applications. Whilst you are waiting to hear from them you should get a job or register at your TVET college to study a trade. You will be much more likely to be recruited into the SANDF if you have a work record or trade on your CV. Kath
i want to be soldier information technology i
Good day,
I have a friend that AWOLed from the Navy a few years ago.
I would like to know whether he can be considerate again to join, and if so, how do we go about to get the process started?
Hi, I don’t know anything about this. Your friend would have to contact the Navy directly. http://www.navy.mil.za/contactus/contactus.htm Kath
Hi my name is Skhulile, I am 29 years old and have always wanted to be part of the army but the the opportunity to apply has only come now that I am divorced, and it seems I am 3 years older than the required 26 year age limit for degree/diploma graduates. I would like to find out if there is any possibility that I could still be considered to join as this is my long time dream.
Hi Skhulile, Unfortunately the time has passed for you to join the armed services. Have a look here for other options in law enforcement: http://www.gostudy.mobi/careers/category/list.aspx?qid=45 All the best, Kath
HOW MUCH IS THE STIPEND WHILE TRAINING ??
Hi Lebo, this link seems to indicate it is R2000/ month – R12 000 for the six months of basic training. After that you apply for various positions with their own salaries attached. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=774&catid=50:Land&Itemid=105 Kath
Hi. Recently I lost my phone and didn’t do a sim swap yet. Struggling to get that done. So i applied this year for 2019 msds programme. How will the army get hold of me then if I need to go in for interview and selection process.
Hi, If you don’t get the sim swap done they won’t be able to contact you. Some people have been contacted already. I am not aware of any process whereby you can give them an alternative number. Sorry. Kath
I am Nkanyiso Biyela I applied in January for SA Army then they sent me SMS on the 3 May 2018 for Selection process that was at NKR 5SAI they interviewed me and I also did a medical assessment. When should I know I am hired for 2019 intake?
Hi, I wish the army would share their recruitment process publicly but they don’t. You will have to wait. They do finalize by September though so it won’t be too long. You are really fortunate to have gotten this far and other people in this blog would like to know how you did it? If you have a moment… would you reply? What do you think helped your application succeed? Kath
Hi, Congratulations on making it this far. The army doesn’t disclose its recruitment process so I don’t know when you can expect to hear but I think by September for basic training to start in October. Lots of people would like to know how to get selected. Can you tell us why you think your application was successful so far? Kath
my name is Collen Sebego and i have 3 years applying to become a soldier but i ddnt get any reply over those years. Ever since i was born my dream was to serve and protect my country with my life but den unfortunately i did not even get a call or sms. i am now a security guard because thats the list i can do to protect and serve my community. i am turning 25 next year and i have N5 business management, N6 management assistant, grade B security training, drivers license, competency with all guns. if there is something i can do to be a soldier i will be the happiest man.
Hi, The first thing they look at with your application is your CV. May be this is the problem. If you would like to send your CV to me I can look at it for you and you can try again for next year. You can email me at kathsaili@gmail.com Kath
Hello my name is katleho.I would like to know that how long does it take a person to know that he/she is qualified into the army just after the closing date of the application?
Hi, You hear from them between July-September for an interview and medical with final decisions by October. All the best, Kath
Hi, i am 20 i would like to join the army will i have to fill in the application for next year or ?
Hi, Yes you can apply in January/February. Application forms will be online. All the best, Kath
hi, I am still in grade 11 I just want to know if they do offer health services like nursing in army and how do I apply after matric and what are the requirements
Hi, You apply for the army after matric. You complete basic training (6 months) then you apply for a position in the army. If you are interested in medical then you’ll apply to the medical corps. You then apply for funds to study and if granted, you apply to study nursing at university. You still need to meet the usual entrance requirements but the army will pay for your study. All the best, Kath
I am interested in joining SANDF and finish matric at the end of nov 2018. being 19 in 2019, i need to know when do i sign up and when will i start training
Hi, You apply online in Jan/Feb and will hear by Sep if you are accepted. Make sure you have a good CV and do something constructive with your 9 months off. When they call you for an interview you need to be able to impress them with how you used your time. School leaver CV template here: https://saili.org.za/school-leaver-cv/ All the best, Kath
hi iam sphamandla Mdlalose i apply for s.a army and s.a airforce and i get the respond with both career then i do the psychometric test and medical also the interview in 5SAI ladysmith so iwanna to know that it possible to recruit for 2019 intake
Hi, If you’ve had the medical and interview then you should hear in the next month if you are selected for basic training. All the best, Kath
Hi iam in gr.11 and 19 years old so next year i will be 20 in matric so i want to know if i can dan still apply please i hope for good news.
Yes you can still apply. Remember that you have to send in a CV with your application. Volunteering is a good way to get experience that you can list on your CV. All the best, Kath
Hello kath i’m 20 yrs old n i completed my matric in 2016 with diploma im currently studying a tvet college and i have already completed N1-N4(electical ENG), do u think my application will be successful if i apply for army?
Hi, Having a trade certainly helps with applications to the army. Make sure your CV looks good. If you have a job or even volunteer experience, that will help you get in. The age cut off is 22 years so apply in Jan for 2019 intake. Intake doesn’t start till after September so also look for a job. All the best, Kath
Hey I’m currently in grade 12 I would like to pursue a career in the health services so how do I apply for next year n which academy offers that
Hi, Please send me your end G11 results on whatsapp and also tell me what area you live in. Then I can advise you. 061 390 4470 Kath
Helo… My name is Nokubona Jaji…I am turning 25 this year September… I have NCV Finance level4 and I am interested in joining the military …do I qualify?
Hi, Unfortunately you are going to be too old. Sorry. You might want to consider taking your study further to an NDip(finance). You will be able to get funding from NSFAS. All the best, Kath
Hi,my name is Karabo and I’m really passionate about serving in the military. I’m turning 22 this year in November and I’ve passed my matric with university entry…problem is I got a level 3 in physical sciences and a level 2 in mathematics. Will I be considered if I apply???
Hi, I have heard that the navy don’t take learners without strong maths and physics. Sorry for the bad news. Have you considered a TVET college course – may be learn a trade? Kath
Hy Kath, I’m very passionate about serving in the military. I’m turning 22 this year in November. I’ve passed matric and have met the minimum requirements for admission to bachelor’s degree, problem is I got a level 2 in mathematics and a level 3 in physics. Will they consider me in the Navy if I apply?
I have passed my metric with all my subject above 50% all except mathematics which i only got 39% so will it be possible for me to apply for the air force or any engineer faculties? shadow
Hi, Unfortunately it is hard to get into anything in the engineering sector with maths under 50%. May be you want to consider a rewrite program? All the best, Kath
hi if I may ask which subjects should I choose to join the navy plz help
Hi, The navy seems to preference strong marks, particularly in maths and physics. Kath
Hi I’m 22 years old now,I’m turning 23 years on 12 December, so I would like to know what I can do to become a soldier, I do have grade 12 but with not higher qualification and I also have driver’s licence, when I was still a young I used to tell my father that “one done I will be a soldier.soldier is my dream career, so I would like to know how could I qualify. I need your help
Hi, Unfortunately you have missed this opportunity due to your age. May be you want to consider a career in security services instead? Sorry for the bad news. Kath
Hi there. My son is busy with his Grade 12 and has math and science as subjects.
He would like to apply for the Air Force Skills Development Program 2019.
Can he only apply next year or can he start applying now ?
He just does not want to waste a whole year waiting if he has been accepted once he finishes Grade 12.
Hi, He can only apply next year and he won’t hear until September. He certainly shouldn’t waste the whole year. He is more likely to be selected if he has a job or is in training. The CV is an important part of the selection process. All the best, Kath
I am in matric at the moment and want to know if i can only apply next year for SANDF even though i am in matric
Hi, Yes that’s right. You need to have matric before you apply for SANDF. Also remember that your CV is important so make sure you have voluntary service or a job on it. You won’t hear from them until later in the year so register for a TVET College course or get a job while you wait. It will help your application and you will learn at the same time. All the best, Kath
Hi, I’m 20 and currently studying a B.Sc degree, 2nd year, planning to finish in 2020. Can I apply for the pilot training program this year for the year 2021?
Hi, I don’t think this will work. Applications are open Jan-Feb and then they contact you for interviews and medicals July-Aug with basic training starting in September. If you intend to finish your degree then you will need to apply in Jan after you complete. This will be a graduate application and is treated differently to people with only matric. If you ever hope to fly commercially then completing a degree will certainly be in your favor. All the best, Kath
hey i need an advise am 24 yers old end i have passed my matric also went to collage i want to ask that is there any chances for me to be in army i was a history learner end on collage i was doing tourism i have level 2 and 3
Hi, Unfortunately you are too old for the army. May be you can go further with your tourism though? You can do a National Diploma (N4-6)? All the best, Kath
Hi,
I am 28 years old. Would I still be able to apply for the navy?
Hi, Unfortunately you are too old. All the best, Kath
Hey there, I’m 25 years old and finished my m3k in 2012 I have a 3 year tertiary education In Engineering and related design (Trade: Automotive repair and maintenance, it covers diesel and petrol), I also have a set of work experience on various fields, do you think I stand a chance to enter the mamilitary if i apply this year or should i just save my paper and try next door ☺.
A reply from you whould be highly appreciated. Thank you!
Thabo Mbonani
Hi, Unfortunately you are too old to apply to the military now. If you had a degree then they have an older age limit but you are over the age limit for a trade. All the best, Kath
hi I am a male 24 years old I have a grade 12 report, I am fit and healthier physically, at the moment I am working as CRO but before I was working as a security guard, I believe that I have more knowledge working as an army and am really interested to be the part of the team
Hi, Unfortunately you are too old to join the SA army now. Sorry to disappoint. Kath
Hi am Thembakazi Malunga I’ve been interested in army since I was young cause in my area I only saw male involved in army so that gave me a courage to army and I love it. By the way I’m 18yrs I finished my matrix last year also I’ve applied on MILITARY and I’m now stressed of their response that when will they and if they are going to respond ?
Hi, You will hear from them by September. Your matric and CV both are considered with your application. Meanwhile you should get a job or register at TVET College for second semester. If you get an interview you don’t want to tell them you spent the year doing nothing. If you don’t get an interview this time, you can add your job or course to your CV and it will help when you apply again next year. All the best, Kath
Hey can I ask …I’ve applied in SA Army this year 2019 Feb and I’ve achieved a diploma in my grade 12 results now I wanna know if can I get accepted in the army with those results..
Hi, Yes you can be accepted with a diploma but remember your CV is also important. Kath
im also at that stage of panic I applied this year too and I’m really stressed
Same advice Sam. Get a job or apply for TVET college for second semester. If you get called up for an interview it is much better to be able to say that you are doing something than you have been sitting at home waiting. Then if you don’t get called up this year you will have a better CV for your application for next year. All the best, Kath
thanks kath
By iam Sylvia iam turning 23 next year 2020 so I need to know where can a get a degree
Hi, A degree takes at least 3 years and you get one at a university. Kath
Good day,
I came across this post and it looks like a pretty good place to try and find some good information that im looking for.
Im currently 22, passed matric, gathered up a few tertiary (college) qualifications, have work experience and I have a few civilian aviation qualifications to my name as well.
My passion lies with aviation and what better place to put that to use than the SAAF.
How would the above listed results/qualifications fare with regards to applying as pilot/navigator?
Hi, I think you are going to have problems with the age restriction. You need to join by age 22 and applications are closed for this year. If you get a Bachelor degree by age 26 you can apply with that, also cutting it fine at this point. You can apply to ATNS to train with them https://www.atns.com/ They have bursaries available. All the best, Kath
Hello sir, I’m 24 I have mateic certificate only and I want to join the army nex year. What must I do?
Hi, Unfortunately you are going to be too old for the army. May be you can consider another career in public safety like traffic or police? All the best, Kath
Hi,why the army recruitment is absorbing youth from18-22 instead of 18-30 or 35 like other forces since army is the one that is kinda tough than other enforcement?
Hi Monwabisi, I don’t really know but my best guess would be that the army gives you a lot of training, over a number of years. You need to be in peak physical condition. 35 is late to be starting with training. Kath
Hi
I’m in grade 11 and I want to join the navy when I finish metric but do I need pure maths and Physics’s to enter
Hi, At the moment, the word is that Navy recruitment is only taking learners with good maths and physics marks. You could try phoning and checking directly though:
012 355 6219 or 012 355 6220 All the best, Kath
I’m going to graduate with a national diploma in surveying in 2021 I will be 23 by then can i still apply for the army?
Hi, they do have an older age category for graduates however I’m not sure if it includes NDip. You would need to contact them and ask. All the best, Kath
Good day, my son has just finished grade 12 2019, he has both pure maths and physics as subjects and has passed matric, but not with outstanding marks in those subjects. He is an active sea cadet and junior black belt in karate. We are applying to the navy, would he’s chances be lower to be accepted in the navy due to his low marks?
Hi, The Navy are not very helpful in making their recruitment policy known but my understanding is that they are preferencing learners with strong maths and physics. They do also consider CV so the extra activities will help. As he won’t hear from the Navy until later in the year I suggest he does something useful meanwhile – either gets a job, volunteers or takes a course. That way if he does get an interview he can show that he self motivated. All the best, Kath
Hello I’m Lindokuhle 18 years of age in matric this year. So I wanted to know if I must apply now or next year for military ? And if next year it means I’ll have to be home from Jan to Sep waiting for the feedback?
Hi, You apply next year and it does mean you won’t hear until September but you should not sit at home. Get a job or volunteer, it will improve your CV and give you a better chance of doing well at the interview. All the best, Kath
Hi there, I applied to the Army and Navy. Just wondering by when I’d hear and how I’ll be contacted. Also where would I report? Thanks in advance
Hi, You will normally hear around September for an interview and medical check. If you pass these then training starts. I am not sure how it will be communicated to you. Remember that the interview includes everything about you including what you are doing right now so… do something that adds to your CV, even if it is volunteering. All the best, Kath
Hi, I’m a second-year law student. My plan after I graduate would be to apply to either the Military or Navy, however, I wanted to know if it were possible to do my articles while I am at either base. Would it also be possible to work as an attorney within the SADF?
Hi, Once accepted to army/navy, you complete 6 months of basic training and then you take a post. The army/navy will advertise positions including study positions for studying law and you can apply for those, like applying for a job. Obviously they won’t advertise if they don’t need the position filled. You can also complete your law degree first then put in a graduate application. In this case I think that they would facilitate you completing articles with them. You can call their recruitment officer and check. All the best, Kath
My lecturer gave the same advice but just told me to confirm. Thank you for your assistance
Hi im Tolulope im currently doing level 2 mechanical engineering in a tvet college im 18 years when im done with my level 4 do i try to join the navy or continue to get my N1 to N6
Hi, I suggest you apply with N4 and also register for N5. You won’t hear from them until later in the year so you might as well be improving your qualifications at the same time. If you don’t get in you can try again with N6 as long as you are still 22 years old. You should also try the army. All the best, Kath
Hi! currently in grade 12 interested in military, so when to apply? …when does the recruitment open and close? …besides which careers will appropriate my subjects? I’m doing Busines Studies and Economics.
Hi, Applications open Jan/Feb and can be found online. You will hear if you are successful by Aug/Sep. Initial selection is based on your matric results and your CV. Following that there is a medical, fitness test and interview. I suggest that you also apply for a tertiary course or otherwise work for 2021, in case you are not selected. Even if you are selected, it will be something to put on your CV. The navy preferences pure maths and physics. All the best, Kath
