The SAILI selection process screens candidates for academic ability and financial need.
Academically talented candidates are selected through a process beginning in November of Grade 6. Two rounds of tests are conducted: the first round is a maths test; successful candidates go through to the second round, which tests categories such as literacy, logic, creativity and science.
Gross family income must be below R10 000/month to qualify, and each student’s financial need is verified through documentation.
Final selection is made by February of Grade 7, ensuring that successful learners are in time to apply for high school places at partner high schools. The scholarship starts in Grade 8, at the point of natural transition to high school.
